Solly tears Achilles - placed on the 6-game IL

On the plus side, perhaps this will force the coaching staff to say "hey, we don't have the LB talent to drop the second level of our defense back into Cover 4 while rushing three and asking an end to pick up the back out of the backfield on passing downs, so let's do something more aggressive", you know?

I didn't see Solomon's injury; did it occur during a Special Teams play? I have been disappointed to see him play STs this year as a) that speaks volumes to the lack of quality depth and b) it is a potential recipe for disaster.
No disrespect but it is bull-twaddle that he as the reigning MOP was even having to spend time as a cover guy on Special Teams.
Does anyone know how many years are left on Solomon's contract?

At least this means the Lions won't be entertaining the idiotic idea of trading Solomon or Bighill.

Well....with option 1, I would like to see Alex Tillman at safety. He plays physical and shows a willingness to lay the opposition out flat.
Somebody needs to put the fear of God into the opposition.

How about Bighill plays MLB, Lokombo starts in Bighill's old spot, AHE stays as relief guy, Tillman or Lee play free safety. If Lokombo goes off the field, Fraser plays FS.

Shuffling chairs, methinks, on the Titanic, no, the Good Ship Leo.
As suggested on here, 12 Man Deep Zone. Maybe the league will allow us to use Steamboats as a pass rush.
Are things that bad with Solly out? Yeah. Pretty bad. The Old Lion, Wally, is defiant and snarly, though. Will that save the day?
............
Just thinking a bit ... In 2013, how long did it take Kent Austin to get his new team into the playoffs? Oh, they made the Grey Cup? Still building in 2014? Oh, they made the Cup again? Must be lucky. And they have all those fantastic players. No weaknesses according to Wally. 2015? The flagship of the league is being said in the media. No rebuilding period? Pretty much from scratch on the fly.

According to LU, early indications are that Steven Clarke could draw back into the game-day lineup, taking Elimimian's roster spot. That would give the Lions a dimeback again and allow Bighill, Lokombo and Hoffman-Ellis to pick up Elimimian's responsibilities in one way or another, depending on package.

Perhaps the injury to Eliminian, sad as it is, will force our Leos to make changes that we need to make to our defense. One of those changes is to stop dropoing Bighill as a safety.
How about:
Smith, Bazzie, Roh - Defensive End
Minter, Westerman, Menard - Defensive Tackle
Safety - Tillman, Fraser
Linebacker - Bighill, Lokombo, Ellis (when Ellis comes on the field, we use Parker at wideside corner or Parker/Fraser at safety or when Ellis is on the field we use Westerman and Minter at tackle.
Another option would be to use a three linebacker set up at times, especially on first down, and go with Bighill, Ellis, and Lokombo at linebacker and take Josh Johnson off the field. We could also use three defensive lineman at times (Bazzie, Smith, Westerman or Menard at nose), blitz a linebacker of two, and use the extra import , and use Tillman or Clarke as a dime back.
Washington hasn't tipped his hand and only smiled when asked what defensive strategy changes the Eliminian injury would create. (smiling is something Washington shouldn't be doing these days but with Wally parked in the G.M.'s spot, Washington isn't overworried about job security yet.
The worst defense in the CFL just lost last season's MOP and a very rare MOP award it was in that defensive players have rarely won the award.
Don't underestimate Ellis though...he is a very talented linebacker. It will be interesting to see how Lokombo handles an increased role.
From a pure stand point, I would prefer Bighill outside and Hoffman-Ellis or Lokombo in the middle. Bighill is fast but is not great against straight ahead run blocking. Ellis, I believe would be better in the middle and the way we split our linebackers Lokombo could rotate in for Ellis or Bighill for that matter.
