Seven cfl.ca writers have each made 25 mid-season all-star picks (12 O, 12 D, 3 ST). Lions garnered 28 (16%) of the total 175 nominations:

RB Andrew Harris (7 nominations, unanimous)
T Jovan Olafioye (4 nods)
G Kirby Fabien (2)
C Jason Foster (2)
LB Adam Bighill (6)
LB Solomon Elimimian (1)
R/K Richie Leone (5 nods for P, 1 for K)

Not surprisingly, no nods for any of our receivers, DLs or DBs.

From collating the entire set of picks into one all-star team, all but Fabien and Solly made the cut.
QB: Zach Collaros
RB: Andrew Harris, Jerome Messam
Rec: Eric Rogers, S.J. Green, Vidal Hazelton, Adarius Bowman

Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Duron Carter and Henoc Muamba could both help the Lions but they'd be expensive.

Carter probably won't make it through waivers -- he had a dozen teams looking at him in offseason. He's already got workouts planned.

Muamba
FYI

Henoc Muamba is a free agent and wants to play now. #cfl offers by Tuesday.
Would have to trade soli in offseason if #bclions signed him

After 1Q, 37 passing yards combined for Smith and Brohm.

Q1 of Wpg @ Ssk is done and the Bombers lead 10-0. Biggest play so far is a wild snap from Ssk centre Dan Clark intended direct for Jerome Messam who wasn't able to recover; Wpg took over on the Ssk20 and converted it into a major.

Ssk was called for a face mask on the score, applied on the convert and it makes me wonder why Wpg didn't try for 2 since the ball would have been spotted on the 1-1/2yd line, rather than the (successful) kick for one spotted at the 13.

On 1st & goal at the 5, Ssk has a TD taken off the board because of illegal blocking downfield before the pass. They fail to find the end zone and have to settle for a McCallum 32yd FG. 10-3 Wpg.

The trick play to Messam was pretty clever, snapping the ball while Smith was pretending to call an audible. Execution wasn't quite there.

I saw it coming about 10 seconds before the snap. Messam, apparently, didn't see it and wasn't even in position when the ball was snapped. SNAFU.

Rookie Nic Demski takes a punt return 60yds to the house for Ssk. The convert ties it 10-10.

McCallum adds a 43yd FG on 3rd & 7 to give Ssk its first lead of the ball game, 13-10. Wpg jumped offside on the play but Ssk elects to leave the points on the board, and the 3pt Ssk lead holds up through halftime.

Didn't look good trying to recover it either. It squirted out between his legs behind him as he was trying to simply fall on it, leaving Wpg's Sam Hurl free to pick up the spoils.

Marve went quietly to injury list with nichols arriving.

Will we see Nichols this half?
According to the leagues official website the team has placed last weeks starter Robert Marve on the 6-game injured list with a leg injury until October 15 so the starting quarterback on Sunday will be either Brian Brohm or Dominique Davis. O’Shea has yet to name his guy and wants to see the next two days of practice before making a final decision.
I'm with Dunigan - the head shots to Smith should have been called just like the horse collar on Lulay by Hebert that ended up injuring Lulay for a good long time. I hope we're not heading back to the CFL letting these liberties on QBs go as the CFL can't afford to lose top QBs. Ironically Lulay paid the price for the no respect comments by the Lions as there was a lot more added to that take down than usual.

Funny that the new HC said JC has full control. If they don't run Messam and Allen they won't be winning until season end.
