Lulay: He's ready. He's pumped. He's ready to resume role as the starter.
Tedford: He's really comfortable with the decision that Lulay start to play. He is anxious to see how he does, how he responds. Tedford knows about his preparation and his leadership. It is about how he is going to respond physically. That is the big key.
Lulay: He is mentally and physically confident that he can make all the throws. This was his best week of practice. He didn't shy away from any throws. The ultimate test is playing the games.

One can only hope. Travis and the team have to go through this process. We have to see if he can play, make the throws, and avoid injury.

And hope that Chris Jones doesn't send headhunters to end Travis' season before it even begins.WestCoastJoe wrote:One can only hope. Travis and the team have to go through this process. We have to see if he can play, make the throws, and avoid injury.

It won't be headhunters, more like shoulder hunters and better prepare for it to happen rather than just hope it doesn't.BC 1988 wrote:And hope that Chris Jones doesn't send headhunters to end Travis' season before it even begins.WestCoastJoe wrote:One can only hope. Good luck to Lulay but IMO he's an career ending injury waiting to happen. Lions fans will cringe every time he's hit this season to see if he gets up in one piece.
While that can be said just about any player in the CFL on any given hit, I understand your point. I am surprised to see Lulay back at this point of the season, in fact at all. Given the period of recovery last season after surgery and the partial game that he got in before having the shoulder pop on him again, I don't see how several months without any surgery are going to prepare him to withstand a season of football again. First up, you have to see if he has the strength to throw the ball off balance when needed, this will tax that shoulder moreso than practice reps. Secondly, you have to see if he can throw the ball downfield with authority, if the ball is constantly overthrown that tells me that his shoulder isn't strong enough to follow through and is basically lagging as he throws the ball. Finally the durability of the shoulder has to be able to take some hits and Lulay will be protecting it to a degree. Will that degree of protection noticeably affect his game?Blue In BC wrote:Good luck to Lulay but IMO he's an career ending injury waiting to happen. Just as well that the game isn't televised, as it may hurt to watch let alone be in Lulay's shoes. Esks like to get after their oppositions O and the Lions better be prepared.
Entertainment value = an all time low
^This.
Add to that the Lions likely won't even have their full eventual starting lineup on the field, I'd be concerned that he's being put out there with a needless risk of failure. At least next week, the final cuts have been made and it's an all-around better situation--Travis should be able to count on his starting receivers and blockers being where they are supposed to be. At the very least I hope the team in front of him tonight contains no one we won't ever see again in orange.
They have said that this is actually the scheduled appearance they had in mind for months though, after measuring the progress of his rehab. So it's sink or swim time.

The starting QB and most of the starting offence always play the first half of the final preseason game. This is their only chance to get up to game speed and polish their timing before the regular season. You can't go into the regular season cold. Having a Week 1 bye can help Lulay recover from the strain of the game but he still has to show that he's ready to play now.
I'm not worried about his deep passes. He showed excellent touch in training camp. He held back a bit on shorter passes, though. He needs to be able to put more zip on those throws into tight windows or they'll be intercepted.
