I think we go with McEwen. We have a need for someone like him at C. He can push Norman back to his natural guard position, and we haven't shied away from players who went back to school before. If we don't go with him I can see Calgary snatching him up at 9 and he won't be available to us at 14.

First trade of the day.

The Alouettes acquire Hamilton's 8th overall (1st round) and 21st overall picks (3rd round) in exchange for O-lineman Ryan Bomben.

Hmmm, Bomben is a starting Guard, but does that not seem like a rather heavy price to pay?

Not entirely sure this wasn't a ruse to get 8 CFL teams to throw the caution flag so that the Stamps could swoop in there and take him at #9 overall. He's a Calgary native who played his college ball at U of C.

It's entirely possible he wants to continue his education, but the timing is a little curious IMO.

Do not trade the pick. Not expecting that, and it would be a shocker.

We should get a good one in Round 1. And more after that.

Not when you consider Hamilton had to go with 3 INT OL last year. Getting somebody who automatically starts is huge for them.

Good for Montreal. They have drafted OL very well over the years. And they have developed them.

He was a 4th round pick. 27 y/o.

Steep price to pay, for sure.

That's called going off the board. I know nothing about him.

I like the position, DL. Dunno about the pick. We went deep.
Latest rating ...
17 (18)
Ese Mrabure-Ajufo DL Wilfrid Laurier
6'2" 250

Athletic, of course.

Dunno about going so deep on the board. Available later? Too much of a reach? Are the Lions the only team that rated him that high?

Not what one would call a safe pick.

Ranked 17th in the draft. A major surprise. McEwen, my first choice for our Leos was gone before we selected as was my second choice in Ackie. McEwen was ranked 10th so I hoped he would be available and also Ackie at #5 but it didn't turn out as I hoped.

However, we passed on at least highly ranked offensive lineman in a very talented draft of offensive lineman. I would have drafted one of them for our first round pick.
