not when they played their music so loud. Hate when instruments over shadow the vocals.

The trophy ambassadors must be so furious now and I wonder what Vancouver metal shop they will hire to make repairs again.
I noticed Hufnagel grab it by the very top and bottom when Cohon handed it over and right away I thought back to Bates. It was handling it in this very fashion that caused the damage in 2006. It's been said you're not supposed to hold it by the rim or handles of the cup part; your top hand has to be no higher than where this guy's right hand is holding the cup portion. But when you're over the moon with how you've just won a championship you're not necessarily thinking with maximum clarity, even if you were previously made fully aware of this — which most of the winning team members probably were NOT.

Not that it's a big deal or anything, but I didn't notice any gov't reps on hand for the presentation. I recall when Cgy last won, in Mtl in 2008, the trophy was presented by then-federal finance minister, the late Jim Flaherty who passed away earlier this year.
they need to put some small steel rods in it

Surprised that it's not broken more often. I'm not an engineer but it doesn't look structurally sound. The section holding up the cup from the base seems flimsy.

Bad weekend for Hamilton football teams. The Ti-Cats and McMaster Mauraders both lost.

I can just imagine the crowd response if it was Christy Clark handing over the trophy.

Plenty of 4th quarter drama which given being a neutral fan that's all you can ask for. In fact, as a Lions fan after that disappointing 2014 season, it was a rare treat see two quarterbacks pass for over 300 yards and the outcome not being determined until the very end. Mitchell looked fantastic for 3 quarters with terrific protection from that oline that starts 4 Canadians.

Steinauer made some nice adjustments with the Cats pass coverage to take away Mitchell's 1st and 2nd reads and only Hamilton's inability in the red zone prevented them from completing the comeback. Did not understand why Austin kicked the FG from the Calgary 30 down 7 with 2 min to go since they still needed a TD but Banks nearly proved me wrong.

Always have complaints about the in house production. That massive block on Maver was never shown on the replay screen. Is there a policy not to show it if a player gets hurt? Can't recall but easily the hit of the game that the fans only saw in live action.

Got to my seat about 30 minutes before kickoff and Russell Wilson and Russell Okung were never introduced to the crowd. Sure hope they were acknowledged during the TSN telecast. Pretty cool to have the Super Bowl winning QB and one of the NFL brightest stars making his way to Vancouver for the game. The CFL naysayers needed to know.

Great post Sammy, thanks for sharing...I think Steinhauer accorded himself very well yesterday...excellent job in giving his team a chance to win...HAM offence should have put up a lot more than 16 points, but credit Rich Stubler for making the right calls at the right time...that was a WELL COACHED FOOTBALL GAME!

I've given up on hearing vocals clearly in stadiums long ago, but I thought the percussion from the band was really great.... Overall, the sound was as good as I've heard it in the stadium and was helped by turning off the stacks that hang from the ceiling and having the sound come from the speakers that they carted out onto the playing field. But that percussion thingee where the whole band was playing a drum solo made it for me..... didnt miss the lyrics.....

A "Weel Coached Football Game" indeed!!! It was nice to see Calgary's O-Line moving as one.... Wow!!! and here I thought that wasn't allowed....

Calgary Mayor was down at field level. Saw him after the presentation milling around.

The pre game band was called "Dallas Smith". Wasn't Dallas Smith the guy that was Bobby Orr's defensive partner?

Yeah, I go to 3 games per year plus the GC this year and the limited amount of replays is always a major disappointment for me. At least they had a scoreboard that shows passing stats, number of first downs etc. Although that too could be improved to show some individual stats.

It was my first GC attendance in over 40 years. I'm not much of a party person but on Saturday night I thought I would check out some of the team hospitality sites. The Lions and Riders were side by side, huge areas in the VCC and they wanted $15 and $20 cover charge. I couldn't see paying $ to listen to a band that I never heard of, play music I didn't like, loader than I like.

So I went to the Tiger-Cats site which was Malone's Bar on Pender Street and I had a great time with some very friendly fans in a real bar.

On the topic of gameday presentation, you'd think for a championship game where the tickets start around $190 all-in that they could IDENTIFY the players on the video board during the pre-game player introductions. Absolutely NO graphics on the board during all of that. NOTHING. What is this, 1973? How about their name and stuff like pos'n, uni #, ht/wt, alma mater, headshot?
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Well, this seems a little bit rich from a team that didn't even make the playoffs.

Just like how building architects should not be greedy and should learn some lessons from designing a building that's too tall, resulting in structural failures......with all the times the trophy has been broken:

Then is it time to revert back to their pre-1987 version?

Maybe not as then players and fans will say it's too small.

----------------------------

Do you agree with MVP Bo Levi Mitchell who, despite a huge interception, won the award? His end stats were 25 completions in 34 attempts for 334 yards and 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. His Hamilton counterpart Zach Collaros had essentiall identical but even slightly better stats with 25 completions in 33 attempts for 342 yards and 1 touchdown with 0 interceptions. I guess the tiebreaker goes to the player from the winning team. But that wasn't the case for the Most Valuable Canadian award. Jon Cornish certainly did not have an extraordinary day as he only had 9 rushes for a measly 25 yards. Given the limited choices, they gave the award to Andy Fantuz who had 6 catches for 81 yards.

Just like how there was a defensive player who won Most Outstanding Player this year and a defensive player won MVP for Super Bowl XLVIII, and given the fact that there were some good defensive plays then perhaps the MVP should have been given to a defensive player as well. Deron Mayo with his leading six tackles and a forced fumble could have won MVP and Corey Mace who made a crucial sack could have won MVC.

In the years from now, is this considered one of the best Grey Cup games? Despite the closeness of the end result, I'd say no...along with the close games of 2000, 2007, and 2010.
