This also answers a question I posed a little while back:
The Most Outstanding Player awards, which include six categories, are voted on by 68 voters from the Football Reporters of Canada and head coaches from across the league.
Solomon Elimimian wins both MOP and Defensive MOP

Those are great analogies...I see a lot of Lanier, sans size, in Elimimian's play...just a great football player!WestCoastJoe wrote:It would be justice for Solomon. While nothing is for certain in the world of the CFL, I agree...Ray was good but not great, plus was injured a bit...Sol was a rock week in and week out and a record setter in the year of the defence. He should be a lock to become a two trophy winner! BIG drop off for Olafoye this season (following Dorazio's "form") and Arceneaux dropped off badly during the season...
Solo plays in the moment. He plays in a fury. Reminds of two bigger guys that played in a controlled fury: Dick Butkus and Willie Lanier. Steam coming out of the helmet.
Deluxe run stoppers. And Solo is also disruptive in pass coverage, a large demand for a Linebacker playing for Mark Washington. Heck, if Solo wins double, I expect the NFL could spot him on their radar again. Our loss. Solo's gain.
I am a big fan of Ricky Ray also. But IMO this year belongs to Solo.

Spread the wealth. Ray for MOP and Sol for defence.
For the others: Cornish, Jones, Waters and McCoil.

Mitchell did better than Ray, yet Cornish got the nod for Calgary. Elimimian gets the nod for the west over Cornish.
If Ray wins, it will be a total travesty, regardless of who is competitor from the west.

What does that mean... Spread the wealth just for the sake of spreading it?Coast Mountain Lion wrote:Spread the wealth.
Yes. Much better logic. Also:KnowItAll wrote:Mitchell did better than Ray, yet Cornish got the nod for Calgary. Elimimian gets the nod for the west over Cornish.

If Solomon Elimimian > Adarius Bowman
and
Adarius Bowman > Mike Reilly
and
Mike Reilly > Ricky Ray (I think we can all agree on this for this year)
THEN
Solomon Elimimian MUST BE > Ricky Ray
Ray absolutely cannot win the MOP this year. It would defy all logic.

Just referencing an earlier post. And I'm not necessarily advocating "share the wealth", but that's what I expect the voters to do. I also expect them to vote Ray as a "make up" for a decade or so of snubbing him when he deserved it more.
And yes, Reilly should have been the Esks' nominee. Bowman is an above average receiver (but not a Geroy Simon, Chad Owens, Allen Pitts, Tony Gabriel, Garney Henley etc) who stood out in an off year for receivers, on a team that, face it, isn't all that loaded with star receivers. If it wasn't Reilly getting him the ball, he'd be middle of the pack.

Damon Allen is a former MOP (late in his career 2005 as an Argo) so it follows that Ricky Ray at some point should also be a MOP. I'm an Allen fan to a point, but Ray is a better QB, imo.
Right now he's got, perhaps appropriately enough?, 56% of the vote.KnowItAll wrote:and 200 vote later, now leading by 6%. and I am not finished voting.TheLionKing wrote:Elimimian now trailing by 2%sj-roc wrote:FWIW an online fan poll on the league's website attached to the article announcing the finalists has Ray trailing by almost a 2-1 margin as I type.

Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

It would be wonderful if Solo wins. I like Ray very much also. He certainly deserves at least one MOP in his HOF career. Just not this year ...

Ray was runner-up to Cornish last year. Voters might decide that he's paid his dues so to speak and that this is finally his year, and they can always give SE the MODP so he doesn't go home empty-handed.WestCoastJoe wrote:It would be wonderful if Solo wins. I think it's a good thing for the league to have evenly matched MOP finalists as it gives pundits something to debate, which creates more media run.

CFL awards night tonight. Keep your fingers crossed in Solomon Elimimian in making CFL history with the first defensive player to win Most Outstanding Player.

When to comes to creating such lists about the best BC Lions, I guess Solomon Elimimian must dethrone the best Lions linebacker in Lions history. In the 50th Anniversary Dream Team, the three linebackers were: Glen Jackson, Tom Brown, and Norm Fieldgate. I'd say Solomon Elimimian can easily replace any one of those three.....as long as there's no sentimental choice in that players who played for many seasons and games would get such the nod. But if they chose Doug Flutie at QB even though he played only 2 seasons as a Lion, the fans sure as heck can chose Solomon Elimimian as he finishes his third season as a Lion.

I just hope Ray doesn't win it because he's been on the league for 13 years and he hasn't won the award
