I agree that Wally deserves a free pass for all he's done for the organization. Hasn't David Braley stated that he has a job with the Lions for as long as he wants it? But I would not be too upset if Neil McEvoy stepped into the GM's chair and Wally took on more of a consultant's role with the organization. Here is why:
1) Wally gave a contract extension to Benevides when he hadn’t even won a playoff game and our record has been slipping. Why? Because his rah-rah style inspired a rookie laden line-up in 2 preseason games?? He's also stood closely with Dan Dorazio (Mr. Teflon man) and his playing buddy from the Als, Chuck McMann who’s done NOTHING for our Special Teams.
2) No one seems to want to land here as a destination anymore. Think about it. We let Chap go, but Cortez, LaPolice, (and maybe even Dickenson) said ‘no thanks.’ Craig Butler, Ted Laurent, Shea Emry, Josh Bourke, and Josh Bell didn’t want to sign here (probably missing some). Nick Moore too, but that's more because Winnipeg opened the vault to sign him. No way we were going to match. The only FAs we were able to sign were Ricky Schmitt (a good signing) and Jamall Johnson (because his wife is from here).

Does David Braley pay his employees by the cliché??

It does seem like Neil McVoy is being groomed for the GM job for when Wally decides to retire and it also appears as if he is currently doing very well as Head Scout. 5 rookies are starting and while 2 of them on the O line are there mostly due to injury and retirements, the 3 rooks on D legitimately won their jobs in TC. I don't think this many rookies have started for the Lions before, certainly not recently. So good on the Scouting staff to come up with Bazzie, Yell, Josh Johnson as well as backups Lee, Burnham, Antolin, Williams, Partridge.
