Once you've separated or dislocated them more than once or twice it seems like it takes less and less for them to pop out again.
I had the unfortunate experience of having my shoulder being dislocated twice in one 24 hour period in 2001, but because of the amazing technilogical rehabilitation procedures available today, it is now my strongest shoulder and it is the other, (which is my right and undergone much more rigor) that I worry about. Having said this I don't have 325 lb linemen pancaking it on a annual basis...
My heart is breaking for Travis at this point, but if anyone can overcome this tragic turn of events, it is him...
May the damage be much less serious, than all of our fears concern...get well soon Trav
I've dislocated my shoulder 3 times in the last 3 years. First time was on high impact and the next 2 times it came out so easily. I don't see how he can come back and play football again.

Hindsight.
Right now the jury remains out on Reilly's ability to stay healthy with the chances he takes. Sounds like he'll miss his second straight start today and has already suffered a concussions or two.
You're as old as you've ever been and as young as you're ever going to be.
I have shared this here before...I had 3 serious separations to my non throwing shoulder while playing...about 2 years after I was no longer playing football and teaching College, my left shoulder kept falling out of the joint while I was writing on the white board so often I was forced to have surgery, which I should of had during my football career, but that would have meant an entire lost season so I waited. The surgery was complex because not only did they need to sever a muscle and tendon, they needed to trim the rotator cuff as well. The muscle and tendon procedure was designed to unfold both of them and then wrap them through and around the shoulder joint and then staple them back to the shoulder so that the shoulder would no longer "fall out". The rotator cuff is tricky because they have to leave a precise angle so that there is fluid motion back and forth without restriction. It was an incredibly painful procedure because of so many parts affected, plus the shoulder area has a lot of nerve endings...The rehab took a full year and completed with a lot of weight work for the upper body because the best way to keep it solid, with little movement, is through the strength of the area...which was VERY painful, but it worked...to this day, when it bothers me, its because I get away from the strengthening (that and when it gets cold and damp), thus Mexico...
The fact is, from all the specialists that I talked to and worked with, its a "bad" joint to injure, and for Lulay its the throwing shoulder. Every time you are invasive to the shoulder joint, there are permanent consequences that can't ever be fixed. The scar tissue continues to build and inflame with movement, and that means restricted motion and pain...you can play through it with Cordizone and acid injections but they take an extreme toll on the shoulder tissue...and then addiction to painkillers becomes an issue, because it is so much nicer NOT to have that extreme pain...at one point my doctor gave me an OPEN PRESCRIPTION to morphine sulphate but that stopped when I started to hallucinate when I was awake and driving to and from work...
The bottom line is that its a nasty joint to injure for a bookworm let alone the throwing shoulder for a CFL QB...you can do your own math as to Lulay's long term prognosis...
"Condemnation Without Investigation is the height of ignorance."
I feel sick. Such a good guy. He will make a great QB coach with a quick promotion to OC and who knows, maybe even a head coaching job at some point.? I really hope he can come back ,but realistically , I fear his playing days may be over. Please prove me and many others wrong.

Exactly. I couldn't see Reilly faring any better on the injury front than Lulay has if he had been our No 1 QB since Travis' first injury in Oct '12.
I agree jmc24, I sure hope Lulay can continue his quarterbacking career, but IF it's over, I would love to see him become our QB coach and eventually an OC à la Dave Dickenson.
He has great leadership skills, is cerebral, and obviously has a solid understanding of offenses. I really liked the way he would 'coach up' the receivers on the sideline when Glenn was starting.
Oh, and how nice a guy is Travis Lulay? I was at practice last Sunday, one of only a few. He doesn't know me from Adam yet called out to me as he was walking off the field and made a special point of thanking ME for coming out. The guy is all class.

I think the long term health implications for Travis will force him to retire. I'll be surprised if he will ever be a starting QB again.
When Lullay was hurt last year I was worried that it might be career ending. But now.....
When the ball slipped out of Lulay's hand I immediately wondered if the reason that he dropped the ball was because his arm fell out of the socket prior to him hitting the ground. But the replay seems to show otherwise.
100% Travis will be back. If not this season, he'll be back next season in a worst case scenario. it was a freak injury, a 330-lb OL fell on him. After healing-up, Travis will have years of great football to play for the Lions yet to come!
