Lions could be visiting 3 domes if TO and Montreal are 1,2 and we represent the east at home. Thnx BBleo4life wrote:No guarentees on the road in the cold east...unless Skulsky wants to give one;)

Food for thought: Definition of "destiny"TheLionKing wrote:Lions have their destiny in their hands. They have no excuses.leo4life wrote:Stamps twice and Edmonton once remainig
The events that will necessarily happen to a particular person or thing in the future.
The hidden power believed to control what will happen in the future; fate.
So it sounds like, for something to be "destiny" by definition, it's some future thing or event that is specifically out of one's hands to control.
Interesting.
So, given that we won against Ott (and how we won, not to mention Lulay's injury), who to root for in Cgy @ Edm and Ssk @ Wpg later this weekend?
This is how the west looks right now, with our record against each team, games remaining and current pt diff:
Cgy 8-1 (1-0, 2, +1)
Edm 7-2 (0-1, 1, -7)
Ssk 7-2 (1-1, 0, +9)
Wpg 6-4 (0-1, 2, -17)
BC 6-4

Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Root for Edmonton (so first place doesn't get too far ahead of us...you never know), and Saskatchewan. Really, 4th place is as attractive as first if you ask me.
Roar you Lions roar!
That is the size of the playoff picture alright. 1st or 4th are the easiest paths to the GC.The_Pauser wrote:Root for Edmonton (so first place doesn't get too far ahead of us...you never know), and Saskatchewan. Really, 4th place is as attractive as first if you ask me.

Brook Ward (at NW these days) agrees with you, as he put it yesterday before the game:The_Pauser wrote:Root for Edmonton (so first place doesn't get too far ahead of us...you never know), and Saskatchewan. Really, 4th place is as attractive as first if you ask me.

Well, we beat Ott but from how we did it 5W might still look good on us.4th place not bad place for B.C. Lions

The BC Lions mantra should be “4th place or bust” !
Finishing 4th in the West may actually be better for B.C. than finishing 1st. Sure a 1st place finish means a bye in round one but it also means a date with a very tough and dangerous team which survives the West semi-final.
Finish 4th means there is no bye and no home game but the crossover means you get to take on a couple of sad sack teams from the sad sack east, and that means a much easier road the the Grey Cup.
If B.C. finished 4th they have to cruise by sweat hogs like Hamilton, Montreal, Toronto or maybe even a date with Ottawa. That leaves Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatchewan or maybe even Winnipeg pounding each other in the West playoffs prior to a Grey Cup date with a Lions team that avoided heavy lifting as it filtered through the Eastern wannabes.
If you are the Lions you should have one goal; beat Ottawa tonight, move into a 4th place tie with Winnipeg, beat the Bombers next week at BC Place Stadium, and do your best to stay ahead of them while not catching anyone in front of you. And the way it looks right now catching Edmonton, Calgary or Saskatchewan is just a pipe-dream anyway.
Job #1 then; Beat the Redblacks tonight. And if they can’t do that then 5th place in the West looks good on them.

While slamming the Lions for the 7-5 win, let's not be which to forget that just a couple weeks ago Edmonton needed a last second score to beat Ottawa 10-8.
Roar you Lions roar!
And hasn't Winnipeg beat the REDBLACKS in two very close matches as well? Like I said, Ottawa plays ugly games, but somehow drag every other team to that level.The_Pauser wrote:While slamming the Lions for the 7-5 win, let's not be which to forget that just a couple weeks ago Edmonton needed a last second score to beat Ottawa 10-8.

Agreed. There are no style points in football. Ugly wins are worth 2 points, just like blowouts. And defence wins championships. The Lions got lucky with the weather but the players gave it everything they had and the defence came up with stops and turnovers to preserve the victory and allow the Lions to creep up in the standings.Rammer wrote:And hasn't Winnipeg beat the REDBLACKS in two very close matches as well? For whom are you cheering today - Winnipeg or Edmonton? Has the ship sailed as far as any hopes for 2nd place goes? Does a Winnipeg win provide a greater sense of urgency for the Lions? Prevent any type of complacency?

If Edmonton wins, second is gone, and 4th is pretty well minimum. However the Riders have gone from high beam range to low beam range and we are still traveling the speed limit while they have a missing cylinder to deal with.David wrote:For whom are you cheering today - Winnipeg or Edmonton? So for this game given the plight of what is happening, may as well stick with an Eskie win and try to take them out down the stretch.
BTW, didn't the Esks advance the ball forward on the fumble recovery, so shouldn't that ball be down at the point of the advancement since it went to another player?

Ummm.....I don't think it much matters who you're cheering for right now. 37-0 Edmonton at half-time.
Long time Bomber fans will no doubt be searching the record books to see if this could be the biggest half-time deficit in team history. I somehow don't expect Chris Jones to take his foot off the gas pedal in the 2nd half.

What a colossal collapse by the Bombers. Well on their way to their 6th straight loss and 8th in 9 games in embarrassing fashion. O'Shea has gone from a coach of the year candidate to being put under the microscope. This performance is making last week's blowout loss to Ottawa look half decent.David wrote:Ummm.....I don't think it much matters who you're cheering for right now. 37-0 Edmonton at half-time.

On a side not there is no runaway choice as the Western MOP this season but Darian Durant is the league's MVP by simply not playing. Riders look lost without him.

20 first downs for Edmonton vs 2 for the 'Peg. 217 total yards vs 27. The Esks can not be that good, and Winnipeg can not be that bad. Can they?
Three out of four weekend games are blowouts, and one which threatened to be early on but turned out to be the comeback of the year. I love this league.
