ALOUETTES' HIGGINS CALLS OUT JOHNSON FOR BETTER OUTPUT
Alouettes head coach Tom Higgins didn't mince words regarding the high-profile receiver, who has just four receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown this season.
"We're getting closer to the end than we are of the beginning if we don't start having better output," Higgins told reporters on Thursday as the team prepared for Friday's home game against Edmonton.
Higgins' warning comes just a day after Johnson's agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN that the 36-year-old is still hopeful for an NFL return.
"If they did (call), he would jump for it," Rosenhaus told ESPN on Wednesday. "Of course, he would love it. But right now, he's operating as a Canadian Football League player. We will see what happens. It's not like we're holding our breath that he's going to play in the NFL. But he's trying. That's the goal."
Rosenhaus added that Johnson, who signed a one-year contract with the Alouettes in April, is enjoying his stay in Montreal and being able to play.
"He just loves playing football," he continued. "Chad is a guy that will play football until he's 50 if they let him.
"He loves the game. He's really very passionate. He's got to do something with football, it's just his life. It really is. All his Twitter followers are enjoying him in Canada just like they would in the NFL. It's nice to see."

So, it is not just love of the game that had 85 seek out the CFL.Higgins' warning comes just a day after Johnson's agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN that the 36-year-old is still hopeful for an NFL return.

Not a surprise.
He has been charming and quirky, as expected. His skills do not look All World, at this stage of his life.
Good luck getting an NFL gig.
Just another head shaker deal in Montreal, for an organization that was solid for years behind Calvillo.

You still have to wonder what his tenure in the CFL would have looked like with a legit QB. He still looks smooth, but he isn't going to be the best in the league and he isn't going to make the NFL anymore. He does like our gun metal jersey's though.WestCoastJoe wrote:So, it is not just love of the game that had 85 seek out the CFL.Higgins' warning comes just a day after Johnson's agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN that the 36-year-old is still hopeful for an NFL return.

It'a a paradox. He has to look very good to have any chance at a return to the NFL but at his age it's very unlikely. Not only did the Als give him an under the table out with a 1 year deal? If he plays well, why would they want to release him. If he doesn't start producing soon why would they keep him.

I'll be surprised if any NFL team shows any interest. He hasn't done anything in the CFL to warrant interest from the Arena Football League let alone the NFL

Yes, if he had a good QB would he be getting more balls - likely and looking decent. BUT he's mostly invisible in games and he hasn't the speed for the NFL and even if he got passes from a QB he'd not shine to make the NFL want him.
His agent is an idiot for that statement as it runs counter to Johnson's spin. Or has he actually been saying he just loves and want to play football.
His agent saying this now isn't smart .
But Higgins calling him out in the media yet tolerating little from his QB is a bit of a stretch. All the crap around the Als these days - how can Higgins last.
Garcia said he'd still play if there was a chance. He might be better.

Typical agent dreaming of big $$ from the NFL but not grounded in reality. The reality is, if Johnson doesn't start producing soon he may be replaced by an NFL cut and his agent will get a percentage of 0.

I think Rosenhaus is forgetting as Johnson is not considered a CFL vet his deal is indeed 1 year........plus an option year.Blue In BC wrote:It'a a paradox. Very legit question. Johnson's numbers look brutal ...... until you compare them with the rest of the Als. Currently that 78 yards puts Johnson #5 on their list. They only have 3 receivers who have mustered 100 yards on the whole season. None have hit 200 yet. Kenny Stafford leads the Als with a meagre 14 catches for 185 yds and a TD. 185 yards places him #22 in the league and on pace for a 666 yard season. Three time 1000 yard receiver SJ Green only has 132 yards to date.Rammer wrote:[You still have to wonder what his tenure in the CFL would have looked like with a legit QB. I don't want to sound like a Chad JOhnson fan, (I'm NOT) but what is he suppossed to do? No recievers are doing well and its the QB, IMO. Could be wrong but guess we'll see. I am actually surprised the Al's haven't cut him already.......

Terrible QB play, brutal play calling/game planning, isolated as the field side wide out. Yep, totally Chad's fault.

Johnson is out of position because he can't waggle. Because he can't waggle, he has to play the wide side of the field.Hawkballer 14 wrote:Terrible QB play, brutal play calling/game planning, isolated as the field side wide out. Yep, totally Chad's fault.

It's not that Ocho can't do the waggle, he just doesn't want to. His agent said he wants back in the NFL, so Ocho probably doesn't want to learn any bad habits (or show the NFL scouts that he needs a running start).cromartie wrote:Johnson is out of position because he can't waggle. Higgins, Smith, or Johnson. One of those three likely will no longer be with the Als before the season is over. Maybe not even by labour day. I'd say 85 has better chance of surviving than those other two.

Cromartie: The waggle is a hard skill to pick up, cannot be fully taught within the confines of a two week training camp. Add in a sub-par Receiver coach and matters aren't being helpd one bit. As far as your 1 + 1 = 2 statement, I'm not sure that is totally valid.JohnHenry wrote:It's not that Ocho can't do the waggle, he just doesn't want to.
