This is Benny's team. He got rid of Chapdelaine. He got rid of Stubler. Doing so kept the spotlight off of him. At some point his Teflon shield (Wally Buono) cannot protect him.
Disorganized team. Mismanaged team.
It seems inexcusable to me that from a huge pool of international talent, we keep one guy for left tackle, Andre Ramsey, with health issues. He goes down, and we have nothing behind him. (Selection of candidates. Training methods. Judgment of talent at TC. Shouldn't a very high percentage of the candidates brought to camp be capable of playing in the CFL? 90% 70% 50% 30% 10% It seems they all get disqualified, or injured, or don't show up, or go home, or get suspended, or are deemed not good enough.) To me it seems unacceptable, especially as there is a crisis of some sort every year with our O Line.
The Alouettes did not look good. But they kicked our butts.
We had no answer for pressure on our beleaguered quarterback. Oh, Yes, lots of excuses available. Ryan Cave had two practices only. Ramsey got hurt. Player is a rookie. We tried to go Big on Big. We simplified our scheme. We couldn't handle the stunts. Bad luck. Bad karma. Strange year. Surprising number of injuries. All good excuses.
Benevides called Kevin Glenn something like the best use of a draft pick in CFL history. Mortgaged the future for the present. But we didn't have a backup quarterback. True.
Our strong run game from last year is nowhere to be seen. Blocking scheme? Play calls? Blame it on the young O Linemen? Harris and Logan no good this year?
Some of this has to be on Benny. Some of this has to be on Dorazio. Just bad luck? Just one of those years? Some of this is on Wally. He made his loyal protege, Mike Benevides, with an extremely thin resume, his choice as successor.
The look on Kevin Glenn's face. He has been thrown to the wolves. And he is no doubt in some shock. All of his experience did not prepare him for this.
Three major penalties on the Alouettes kept our late, late, late scoring drive going. 24-3 looks a lot worse than 24-9. The Alouettes are not a good team, either. But they feasted on our unpreparedness.
Positives? Khreem Smith came out of the gate hard. Bighill and Solo played hard. Menard played hard. Ernest Jackson made some nice plays. Courtney Taylor made some nice catches. Schmitt punted the heck out of the ball. Defence kept the score low, although the Montreal offence is no great shakes. Benny did not do any chest bumps.

Another pathetic effort by the Lions. 13 points off turnovers. Glenn looked confused out there.

Turnovers were again the Lions' undoing. Glenn was rattled and Khari Jones didn't do enough to counter the Als' pressure with quick slants and screens. In the third quarter, the Als stopped blitzing but the Lions didn't adjust.
For whatever reason, the Lions have a tough time playing in Montreal and the Als have a tough time playing in B.C. I hope to see a much better effort next week in Regina.
On a positive note (someone has to be positive), I thought Marsh, Elimimian and Menard played particularly well, although Marsh should have had at least one interception.

That looked a lot to me like Paul McCallum kicking the Lions only FG.

Montreal has a good game plan taking advantage of the inexperienced left side of the Lions' offensive line. Lions were unable to adjust.
This situation is not likely to improve. This ineptitude should not be rewarded; this talent level should not be wasted any longer. The team looks wholly disorganized and poorly prepared.
Ownership might consider cleaning the whole house sooner rather than later.

I keep banging the drum but this mess on the O Line is solely Wally's.
I am not a Benevides fan and I think that he may be the weakest HC in the west;however, as a coach you have to go with what you have.
Not addressing the O-line problems for multiple years in a row is the GM's responsibiliy. Go back on this for 1-2 years back and the same comments about our offensive line would be seen.
As GM Wally should have known by camp that Travis wasn't going to be ready. The trade for Glenn tells me he did. Not ensuring that a small, non mobile pocket passer who is best at quick hit passing had a solid o-line to start the season is a management and recruiting issue.
Not coming up with a game plan to establish an effective run game and to roll away from a weak left line is a coaching issue.

Two preseason games and we're handing out extensions to Benevides and giving raises to Glenn. Wow. How many light years away from that Calgary preseason blowout win are we? This team doesn't have any confidence (offense especially) and I could see it at practice when I was there this week.
Kudos to Ricky Schmitt, Ernest Jackson, Solly, and Bighill - a few of the bright spots. I also liked David Menard in limited duty.
24-10 sounds better than 24-9...not sure why Benevides went for the two point conversion down 14 points.
And how bad was this game when two absolutely brutal non-catch calls by the booth and the officials respectively are overshadowed by the brutal execution on the field?
