Kudos to Coast Capital Savings for coming on board as a 2013 sponsor, but surely there other ways to promote their name than a big blue jersey patch. Uggggh!!

A Coast Capital Savings jersey patch. Really?? Is this a pro football team or Whalley little league baseball? :bang:

I agree!
I've never liked these jersey patches, look bush, keep all sponsorship on field, in stadium, etc., but off the jersey!

There's a way they could have done this without making it look so... offensive.

Use a larger corporate brand in white on an orange background for the home, and blue or black on white for the road. This is a clumbsy afterthought, which shows little respect for the core supporter or even the team's own brand.

If they put a little thought into it, this could work for everyone. Instead, their lack of imagination devalues both brands.

Off to Chico's Bail Bonds.

Well said Jim and all I can say now is that it is one step closer to motor sports advertising.

If the Lions had to restrict themselves for such sponsorships to only companies whose corporate colours were already mostly orange, their options would be greatly limited. CCS's corporate colours are what they are and it's highly doubtful they would have entertained any changes to their colour scheme in a cresting arrangement like this.

The element of this arrangement most surprising to me is its Lions-only nature (AFAIK since they're a BC-only business). The Rona and Scotiabank patches through last year were league-wide. Looks like it's every team for themselves this year on the cresting front.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Debacle of the century

At least change the writing to blue and the background to white. Or something along those lines

Soooo bad
-Believes in building from the trenches outwards. A great O-Line and D-Line guarantees an above average team.
-A coach that has to give a motivational pregame speech is probably a coach that is insecure about his game plan.

Egads, the more I stare at that thing on Travis, the more it looks like one of those "Hi, My Name Is...." tags at an Amway convention.

Epic fail.

Agreed. Corporations spend a ton of money developing their trademarks, logos, corporate colours etc. Usually their corporate communications department develop strict rules as tho how such a logo is to lbe presented.or displayed. Asking Coast Capital to somehow alter their corporate logo so it looks more aesthetically pleasing when combined the the Lions colout scheme is no different than asking someone wanting to pay to advertise somewhere and being asked to something about their logo colour scheme just because orange and white doesn't look sharp on a blue background etc. I'm sure most Lionbackers would be appalled at the idea.

Looks like we'll have to get used to it. This cresting deal will run through the 2015 season.

BC Lions Announce Partnership With Coast Capital Savings

Lions will wear Coast Capital patch on jerseys

Iain McLetchie May 23, 2013 11:00am PST

The BC Lions Football Club is pleased to announce that Coast Capital Savings has signed on as another premier partner and their official credit union.

The multi-year agreement, which was announced this morning at the club’s practice facility in Surrey, will give Coast Capital Savings high-profile exposure as their brand will be featured on the Lions’ home and away jerseys among a number of other branding and community partnership opportunities.

“We are very pleased to welcome Coast Capital Savings to the BC Lions family,” said Lions president and CEO Dennis Skulsky. “As a fellow organization with a long and proud history in British Columbia, Coast Capital Savings is a leader among their peers in this province and the fact that they made a long-term commitment to our club speaks to the strength of our brand.”

In addition to being featured on the club’s home and away jerseys and their designation as the official credit union of the BC Lions, fans will see the Coast Capital Savings brand in-stadium on game days as they become the presenting sponsor of every Lions touchdown scored at BC Place.

“Coast Capital Savings has great respect for what the BC Lions do as a customer-focused, community-minded organization,” said Tracy Redies, president and CEO, Coast Capital Savings. “Our partnership allows us to leverage the BC Lions marketing strength to build the Coast Capital Savings brand, even garnering national exposure. We’re thrilled we can do this all while providing unique benefits to both our members and our communities.”

As part of the three-year agreement, the credit union has signed on as a supporting partner of the club’s Lions Pride program.

“Coast Capital Savings strives to build a richer future for youth in our communities,” explains Redies. “Lions Pride is a fantastic program that ultimately contributes to those richer futures using the Lions’ celebrity and ability to connect with young people to build self-esteem and social skills. It is that shared commitment to the youth in our communities that further strengthens this partnership and launches it into something bigger, something beyond strictly a marketing opportunity for each organization.”

BC Lions Training Camp presented by Sun Peaks Resort gets underway in Kamloops, BC on Sunday, June 2. The Lions kick off the 2013 campaign with a preseason tilt versus Edmonton on Friday, June 21 at 7:00 pm and begin their regular season home schedule on Thursday, July 4 versus the reigning Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts.

At least they could have gotten VanCity, whose colours would sort of match.

The Lions have some video on their website of today's media event to promote this initiative. Note around the 2:01 mark, WB's deft hand in wrapping the Lions scarf around the neck of CCS president/CEO Tracy Redies so as to keep the CCS crest visible.
