TiCats played tough. As expected. Burris had enough shame, and got into a rhythm in the second half.
Lions were a bit comfortable. 18 and 0. Gheezus fahgetabout that. One game at a time.
Tim Brown ... Shake and Bake. Not fast but very effective.
Meanwhile the TiCats have scary speed.
Shawn Gore
Muamba ... not impressed ... tackles like Ryan Phillips ... Oh yeah, Ryan Phillips ... not impressed.
Shell
Bighill
Activate Bell for Phillips
Marsh is also a poor tackler unless he is able to set up his high risk shoulder tackle

On the one hand, it would be easy to focus on the negatives - special teams coverage hasn't improved, the offense struggled, the game was too close for comfort.
But right now I'm thinking this is such a great time to be a Lions fan. They finally beat a team that has dominated them in the last few years, and even on an off night they can scrape out a win against any team in this league. The most amazing thing to me is how strange it feels for the Lions to even be trailing in a game!

You had to like how the Lions ended the game with the direct snap to Andrew Harris who put the final cut into the Cats.rb wrote:He is a freakin' football player.WestCoastJoe wrote:Wow. Andrew Harris
Combine his ability with his non-import/ratio-buster status and he's probably behind only Lulay in terms of real value to the team.
Lulay continues to shine.
Bighill with 9 tackles was big as the game announcers kept pointing out.
Special teams still need the work but the Cats too have some talent there.
I think Rod Black said that Markeith Knowlton either did not start or did not play last week? Not sure what was said but if true he was sat last week .. wow.. what a surprise.

Here's an article from the Hamilton Spectator about the reasoning that went into the decision to sit Knowlton against the RidersToppy Vann wrote: I think Rod Black said that Markeith Knowlton either did not start or did not play last week? Great display of how a pro handles pressure in the last 3 minutes by Travis. Great character displayed by the offence when it was needed. The Tiger Cats are not yet on the same page with one another; they are a capable lot, especially now that they have a quarterback like Hank. They will be a force, methinks.
Nice job by the D to keep Henry from smiling too much, especially by BigHeart.
And I was about to complain about the return game. I'll shut up about this facet of the game.
Nice job Lions.

So it was a win but dare we say there were a few disturbing moments tonight.
The return of Chapball in parts of this game - need 8 yards, lets throw it 40 and go 2 and out.
Special Teams - uugh and wow. Best game for Tim Brown as a Lions without a doubt but man on man did the Lions look lax on the Tiger Cat return. 3 bodies and then no one behind them except Paul McCallum. Way too easy.
Defense - this is what concerned me the most tonight. They got very soft in the second half. Muamba played awful tonight. What is with the slap at the ball when you could have tackled him? The D had people overrun plays all night and there were way too many missed assignments.
D Line, not bad but not overpowering either. Gave good pressure most of the evening but also failed to contain Burris on a couple of key plays
Secondary, this is supposed to be strength of team but not demonstrated out there tonight. They had some good plays but tackling was average at best, too many times receivers were wide open for the Cats. Fortunately, they made some mistakes and dropped some very catchable balls
O was a bit unimaginative at points. Are they ever going to throw to Foster again? Bruce was ignored far too many times this evening as well. First half seemed to be Geroy and Gore. Second half, they started doing something else but it makes you wonder why it takes them a half to figure out they have more than 2 receivers on the field.
Harris, a beast when it really counted. Kabongo still takes holding calls

We have amazing talent on this team, and yet IMO we do not have great personnel on our ST kick coverage team. If we have to put Ryan Phillips out there, that is not a good thing. Muamba is playing very, very soft. I would have to look closely at the film to focus on individuals but it might be as much a personnel thing as a coaching thing. We don't have a lot (any?) young guns to play ST coverage.
Do they include ST tackles in the game stats? I would be interested in seeing them as a separate item.
I get the impression Cauchy Muamba has been watching Ryan Phillips play bull fighter, as in let the bull pass by safely. Dante Marsh has been getting by without wrapping guys up for years also. If Cauchy is not willing to hit guys, I would consider putting LaRose back in there at safety.
Exciting game. You know you have a good team when you can win without all the elements clicking.
No game is per-fect. No team is per-fect. A little bit of criticism keeps it real.
.........
And some of the best coaches were at their most harsh after a win, rather than after a loss. Lombardi. Parcells.
