As I mentioned earlier, the Vikings are going to address the WR position in a big way this coming off season, likely through both the draft and FA...pushing EA back even further...and teams like the Vikings don't keep the same players on the practise roster forever...if you can't make the squad after one season of prepping, then they jettison the player for fresh meat...

I think Manny will come limping back to the CFL, wanting big dollars, and still possessing a case of the dropsies...
Well, sort of, one may be getting ahead of onesself in the sense that Manny was courted by several teams, if the Vikes let him go another team can pick him up and let the Vikes pay his contract for that yr.

What to watch for with him is whether or not in the last 2 games, he makes the active roster, a player can be on a teams' PR for 3 yrs, or 8 active games, they've given him a fair amount of money so far but whether that is enough to get him a shot remains to be seen.

For example John Chick was given a 800k signing bonus, looked good in 2 preseasons, but was ultimately waived by the Colts, he signed with the Jags and had 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble in part time duty, sometimes it is not talent that keeps a guy from playing, it boils down to Coaches liking a player enough to give them a shot at playing.

Imo that is what is happening with Manny A, if he goes somewhere else I believe he will produce.

Another factor you have to look at is the fact he's not sacrificing his body.. Sitting on the bench/practice roster and collecting a decent cheque is a good way to leave the game of football healthy
-Believes in building from the trenches outwards. A great O-Line and D-Line guarantees an above average team.
-A coach that has to give a motivational pregame speech is probably a coach that is insecure about his game plan.

That's true...if fame and glory aren't everything to you, then this can be counted as a nice period for EA...and he may land on another NFL team's practise roster, but then the same situation will occur again...he is the new kid on the block and will have to wait.

One other thing to factor in on a return to the CFL, he is a free agent this year by CFL standards. So if he does return he could be looking for top dollar from any of the CFL Teams with receiver issues. I'm pretty certain with the big game in TO this year, the double blue would certainly look twice at him.

Miles Austin languished at the bottom of the Dallas roster for about three years, closer to the practice squad or the street than the lineup. He got coached up, made some plays on kick teams, and now makes about $7 million per season. Guys like Manny are going to chase the dream as far as they can.

I believe you are correct, I keep up with Manny A via twitter and he is making use of a Vikings program that pays for educational expenses, he is going for his PhD in education.

Now, if successful it means he is qualified to be a Principal at a US school, though with some of the stuff he used to say via Twitter...he'd better hope the whole thing has folded by the time he is hired...

Interestingly enough, the same scout who found Austin, Jeff Ireland, had the first workout with Manny when he went South, but passed on him.

Just as an player does in the CFL when somebody like Manny goes to the NFL they do so with the mindset of drawing a regular pay cheque, not to be on the PR. At $5700/week the PR ain't a bad Plan B. $91200 is likely a raise over what his CFL contract called for. Get activated for the final 3 games and his NFL compensation goes from $91,200 to $144,000. It can't be easy sitting on the PR but while you're there you're learning and you're only 1 bad injury away from being activated. What hurt Arceneaux and rookies like Fantuz this year was the labour dispute wiping out all the mini-camps and OTAs that are hugely important to get newcomers more prepared for TC. That Manny is still on the PR says a lot for what the Vikes think of him. He's likely looked at as a project worth spending time on. As for next year I doubt they would use a 2nd overall pick on a WR given more pressing needs elsewhere including QB. Draftcountdown.com has 4 QBs mocked to go in the top 12 and project the Vikes would take stud OT Matt Kalil at #2. Adding a WR for a raw QB like 12th round draft pick Christian Ponder doesn't help much when the all important LT is being turnstiled most of the year.

The Minnesota Vikings will place rookie wide receiver Stephen Burton on injured reserve, Jeremy Fowler of the Pioneer Press reports.

A 2011 seventh-round pick out of West Texas A&M, Burton spent much of the season on the team's practice squad, catching two passes for 38 yards in the three games he was active. Burton suffered an MCL injury during Sunday's 34-28 win over the Detroit Lions.

To replace Burton, first-year wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux has been promoted from the practice squad. Arceneaux played his college ball at Alcorn State, but went undrafted and spent two seasons in the CFL before receiving a $75,000 signing bonus with the Vikings before the lockout. Arceneaux caught four passes for 86 yards in the preseason and has been on the practice squad since the start of the regular season.
Per the pioner press

Good for Manny A, hope he does well with his opportunities!

Good luck to Manny...with Ponder hurt right now, his QB might be Joe Webb, who might not achieve 10 completions against New Orleans if he starts next week...hopefully Ponder will recover this week and be able to play...

I'd think Manny will be fortunate to be activated for gms tbh, here is why:

If he plays well, he catches the eye of another team, if MN tries to put him on their practice roster, some other team will poach him, so why put him on the field other then MAYBE to cover kicks and play ST?

Just got himself close to a $20K raise for this week.
