Just because Casey is dressed for Edmonton and took some reps doesn't mean he's not seriously injured.
As cromarrtie said, we dressed and tried to start Dickenson in the 2003 cross-over game, when he probably should have been in hospital. In 2005, we played Printers with a bad shoulder cuff injury..with Printers only able to practice during the week and in the pre-game warm up throwing the football underhanded...brilliant!!
In 2006, we had Dickenson playing with post-concussion symptoms and in both 2007 and 2009 we played Buck while he was seriously injured. Don't forget Wally played Dickenson with a separated shoulder when he was in Calgary.
A lot of the quarterback starting decisions have confused a lot of people during the Wally era in B.C., .from the Dickenson '04 Grey Cup start to the insertion of Dickenson in the '07 playoff game, when he was so rusty. However, even more astounding is how often we've played quarterbacks when it was obvious they were playing injured and handicapped by their injury....look at Buck rolling around holding his shoulder last year, after each play, and then staying in to throw it again.
I think it just makes more sense to put the backup quarterback in when the starter gets injured. It makes more sense for so many reasons. Yes, you expect a quarterback to play with bumps and bruises but not the way some of our quarterbacks have been played. Dickenson said you don't want to come out if you're injured because you can lose your starting job. All our quarterbacks play with that attitude but even more so, our Head Coach also has the attitude that you keep playing, unless you can't walk.
Don't agree with it..its more macho and old school than wise.
