Cortez went to Saskatchewan after California so he could call the plays.. and he may or may not be calling them here next season. Likely he will but also very, very likely its not just going to be completely his offensive design...and as Tedford gets familiarized with the CFL the more Tedford will impact the design of the offence here in B.C.

I hope Tedford is hard at work building his team of coaches as that is one of his top 2 or 3 roles - set the tone, provide vision and direction and coach the coaches.

As to hiring his son as a wag I worked with once said "there is nothing wrong with nepotism as long as the nepots are competent!"

Exactly as Bill Bellicheck has his son on staff also and is respected as a hard working up and coming young coach...however his exact job is not talked about by any of the staff or players;)

Leo4life posted on another thread that Barrin Miles was not renewed by the Roughiders. Is there a place for him here or has he decided to take a sabbatical from coaching? Maybe we can entice him as a Safety??? (just kidding.....I think....)

LU reported last week he is a finalist to replace Chapdelaine at SFU.

Aahhh. I missed that. Thanks.
That would be a good move for Miles. He is so well known for defensive playing and coaching, it will broaden his coaching experience base and his scouting experience. Good on him.

Besides , it would be up to Tedford to make that move , we got even less say in the matter than Wally Bouno .

If true, the meetings at SFU this week with each of the finalists and alumni are being held. No names were in the announcements at the request of each of the 3 final guys.

Tedford ... "Evaluating the players. Want depth at quarterback. Not built around one player."

Re the Seattle play call: "I don't think there was anything wrong with play call. The guy made a great play on the ball."
....................

Cortez ... "There's a bunch of players been most successful on both sides of the ball." "Travis has been one of the better players in the league."
................

Washington ... "There is always a learning curve. It's gonna be a new look. We will stress sacks and turnovers. Not that we didn't stress them in the past. They are major components of what we need to do. Let's get some turnovers. Let's get some sacks. It that means more pressure, then we are going to do it. I love pressure. You know that."

Once again, as noted on here by a few, one suspects that Mark Washington was not really running the defence according to his own preference. He talks attack. We did not get that last year. This year ... we will see.

Easy to like Mark Washington. Great personality. Very positive guy. I've heard him speak to young people.
John Madden's Team Policies: Be on time. Pay attention. Play like hell on game day.

Jimmy Johnson's Game Keys: Protect the ball. Make plays.

Walter Payton's Advice to Kids: Play hard. Play fair. Have fun.

Here's hoping. Because his defenses need to put up in the attack/turnover department.

I hope he knows what he is doing.

How he can say this stuff though surprises me. If they believe it, then do it. Don't talk about it.

Washington said all of this last year and ran a passive zone D dropping his stud LB into pass coverage...was it Bennys call? Possibly. He talked aggressive as D cordinater as well but ran a very conservative scheme. The Lions need to upgrade their D-Line personell or this "attack/pressure/sack/turn over talk wont happen imho

I know the HC calls the shots but I know I wouldn't accept that kind of situation and let the game go against me when I know a better call can be made. Not sure it's cool for a DC to rip into his former HC as that guy gave him a shot but saying one thing and doing another is strange.

It has been a bit of the Lions culture under WB that they deny a problem for a long time when the fans and media are over them for it and then 'fess up to it later and make the changes. Most teams want to adapt in the game or at half time as that is what good coaching is all about.

Where I think some coaches get off base is their determination to make solo decisions and not check out with their team (the smart ones) what they see.

Tedford is a well spoken HC and he's saying all the right things. Enough hints though they realize their star QB is a hit away from no more football. They need someone who can step in.

It's sad that they stepped away from Steff Kruck as QB coach after he did them well as co-OC when in those days all those QBs were playing and in the 05-06 seasons I saw Kruck working out the injured Printers for example and the QBs were all involved. We're not seeing that as much and a bit is circumstance. A specialist coach at that role is a positive step and was happening when we did well regardless of who played. Oh, they didn't run it but I know they had a goal line play for 4th string Buck Pierce!!!!
