well, it sure wasn't funny when eric did it. Never did like the guy because of that. Same with Eli Manning

Subsequent trade with Philadelphia laid the foundation for the Colorado Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup. The Flyers paid a very steep price for acquiring Lindros: Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Chris Simon, Steve Duchesne, Peter Forsberg and Ron Hextall.

Somewhere deep down, I had this faint hope that the Canucks might actually get a first overall draft pick but it figures that not only do they not get this pick, they actually drop two spaces. I'm so tired of this league and it's BS lottery system. How is this better than the old practice of teams tanking at the end of the year? You end up with teams like the Oilers getting a bevy of 1st overalls over the proceeding few years and the Canucks who even when they suck end up drafting 5th. I think this team dwells under some dark cloud. They never seem to catch a break.

I was going to agree completely with you, but this article does it's best to point out the few bright spots in 45 draft years.
http://canucksarmy.com/2016/4/26/5-time ... -the-draft
The writer tries to say Dale Tallon was as good a pick as they could have hoped to get in 1970, but he doesn't tell the whole story--explained in this excellent article:
http://grantland.com/the-triangle/eight ... nhl-draft/
Let’s say you had two expansion teams and you needed a quick way to figure out which one should get the first overall pick. What would you do?
If you said “flip a coin,” you fail, because this was the ’70s and that would have made way too much sense. No, when it came time for the NHL to sort out the first overall pick between the expansion Canucks and Sabres at the 1970 draft, they went for The Wheel.
That would be a giant roulette-style wheel, which commissioner Clarence Campbell would spin to decide the pick. To make matters even more complicated, the league used a wheel with 13 numbers, apparently unaware it would need an even number of spots to make things fair. It divided the numbers up. It spun the wheel. Then it misread the result and gave the pick to the wrong team.
I feel like I need to stop here and assure you that I am not making any of this up. Campbell spun the wheel and announced that it had landed on no. 1, resulting in Vancouver winning the top pick. While the Canucks celebrated, Campbell looked again and realized that the wheel had actually stopped on no. 11, meaning the Sabres had won.
They used the first overall pick on a kid named Gilbert Perreault, who’d go on to play his 17 seasons in Buffalo and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990. That same year, he became the first Sabre to have his number retired, as the team honored famous no. 1. Wait, no, make that eleven. It’s easy to get those confused.
One thing I heard on the broadcast tonight shows how unlucky (or inept) the Leafs management has been: this will be their first #1 pick since 1985 (Wendel Clark). Out of the 30 seasons since then, they've missed the playoffs 15 times.

Great to see Team Canada come through over Finland, after their only really bad performance was against them on Tuesday. Russia obliterated the USA to win the bronze after their sub-standard play against the Finns yesterday. (I'm glad we didn't have to face them today). McDavid showed well in scoring (his only goal of the tournament) the golden goal.
The Finnish goalie, Mikko Koskinen, has had an interesting career--drafted 31st overall in 2009, he only played 4 NHL games with NYI in 2011 before going back to Europe, the last 2 seasons with SKA Saint Petersburg in the KHL.

Kudos to Benning on the Gudbranson trade. They gave up quite a bit in McCann and the picks but in Gudbranson acquired a defenceman who checks off a lot of the boxes for what has been their biggest need for several years. Right handed d-man who brings both size and a physical presence that has been noticeably lacking. For the last couple of years Luca Sbisa has been the only Canuck defenceman to bring what one might call an edge to the blueline.

Pittsburgh Penguins have a 3-1 commanding lead in the series heading back to Pittsburgh. Who thinks the San Jose Sharks can come back and win?

Sidney Crosby will be hoisting Lord Stanley's mug in a few days.

Well, Penguins with their fourth Stanley Cup - and all four on the road.

And given the fact that in all four wins the Penguins hoisted the Eastern Conference final (Prince of Wales) trophy, then perhaps it's time to put an end to superstition of not holding the conference trophy.

If there's any consolation for those in the San Francisco Bay area, they might win a championship tomorrow night. Unless of course those in San Jose have a huge animosity towards crime-ridden Oakland.

Sidney Crosby very deserving to win the Conn Smyth Trophy. He was a stud in the playoffs.

I just could not get into this SC Final. These are two teams that I simply could not get excited about. San Jose just doesn't resonate with me and the Pens, I'm still choked about the Sidney Crosby sweepstakes. They get Malkin, they get Crosby. Before it was Lemieux and Jagr. Probably 4 of the best players to ever play in the modern era. Some teams seem to have quite a bit of good fortune.

At any rate, this SC is over and frankly, I was hardly aware of most it especially with the lack of Canadian Content. After all these years, I really have to believe that this league is just broken and sickly. I find it very hard to get excited about NHL games. Overpriced, over hyped. I prefer World Juniors or World Championships by a long shot. Maybe I am just old but it just doesn't seem special anymore.

PIT really deserved the win. SJ was completely contained the entire series. That it went 6 games was the surprise. Nice to see the injured and retired players get their turns with the Cup.

22yr old Matt Murray will certainly be in line for a raise from his $550,000 salary. Good article about the hard choices that come with success (even more so if there is a future expansion draft).
