Bishop appeared to play through pain in this game, but there was an incident in the 2nd period that had the entire arena howling (especially Quenneville, who looked like he was going to burst a blood vessel). With very mild contact fom Saad, Bishop fell forward and lay on the ice long enough to cause a stoppage of play, creating a 5 on 3 PP. The commentary said he leads the NHL in drawing goaltender interference calls.

I'd be concerned that CHI might decide to really try to take him out of this series, it probably wouldn't require much if he's already as injured as he appears to be.

Crawford was very good during periods of sustained pressure (like the 5 on 3 PK), but he also let in a couple of softies that made the difference in the game.

Chicago 2 Tampa Bay 1. Series tied 2-2.

Several Chicago players stated after game 3 that they were going to test Bishop more to exploit his limited mobiilty, and that was likely a factor in Andrei Vasilevskiy making his first ever playoff start. He wasn't tested much with only 19 shots and help from a few posts and a crossbar.

Toews broke the scoreless tie at 6:40 of the 2nd period, which was knotted up again 5 minutes later by Alex Killorn. Brandon Saad scored the winner five-hole at 6:22 of the 3rd.

Bishop didn't even dress for the game, but Jon Cooper said he expects he will play again later in the series, which now will go at least until Monday.

The series continues in Tampa Saturday at 5pm.

The extra day between games might work in Bishop's favour.

Terrible decision by Bishop on the opening goal to come that far out of his net to play the puck when Hedman (with Patrick Sharp in pursuit) was already closing on it. They collide, he falls to the ice and the puck continues behind him where Sharp gathers it up, walks it over to the vacated net and at 6:11 deposits the easiest non-empty net goal (technically) anyone will ever score.

You have to trust your D to bail you out there, especially as a goalie who's already banged up enough to have sat out the last game. Possibly the turning point in a series that was tied 2-2.

To add insult to injury, Bishop's Chicago counterpart Crawford should have been penalised moments before this goal for playing the puck in the no-go zone behind his own goal line. Officials missed it. Tampa had some further bad luck on another play before all this as Crawford handled the puck poorly, a miscue that yielded a scoring chance to Triplets Line winger Nikita Kucherov. Unfortunately he collided headfirst into the goal post on the play and did not return, finishing with just 1:17 ice time, and it's not yet clear if he will play Game 6 in Chicago on Monday.

TBL were also disorganised in the closing minute of the game, getting called for too many men with just nine seconds left and their goalie pulled as they pressed for the equaliser. This put the ensuing faceoff back in their own end and Bishop back on the ice; they lost the faceoff and there simply wasn't enough time to regain control of the puck, let alone mount a scoring chance.

Chicago 2 Tampa Bay 0. Chicago wins Stanley Cup final 4-2.

It was the first time since 1938 (over TOR) they celebrated their win on home ice. !961 was clinched at DET, 2010 at PHA, and 2013 at BOS. Their only other (and first) victory was in 1934 at home vs DET.

This year it came down which team in the final was better able to survive the grind of playing with injuries. Credit CHI with effectively managing their depleted D corp.

Once Bishop had the (now revealed) right groin tear in game 2, Jon Cooper decided to keep playing him vs his healthy (but no playoff experience) backup Vasilevskiy. (except for game 4). This was probably not the best way to go, since Bishop himself admitted his game became inefficient. Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov were mostly ineffective in their attempts to play though pain.

Canuck backup goalie Eddie Lack ended up going to Carolina for the 66th pick this year, and the Hurricanes 2016 7th rounder.
They used the 66th pick for left shooting D-man Guillaume Brisebois

Benning got caught by the number of goalies on the market (Lehner, Jones, Niemi, and primarily Talbot), who went for more than Lack. Carolina gets a definite upgrade after dealing their old backup Anton Khudobin to Anaheim.

Bit disappointed at the return but as you say there is a glut of goalies on the market.

I guess most would say that their best memory of him was when he scored the game winning overtime goal out of nowhere that propelled the Canucks to the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

Revelations are beginning to surface into the reasons behind the LA Kings' unilateral termination of forward Mike Richards's contract yesterday. In announcing the termination, the team would only comment that "a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Players Contract" had occurred without offering further elaboration. Pierre McGuire was on TSN radio in Montreal yesterday afternoon, during which he and the host agreed a border-crossing incident was at the heart of the termination. They both acknowledged having heard more about the situation than they were willing to disclose at that time and left it at that.

Now Wpg Sun's Paul Friesen is reporting Richards is under investigation by RCMP over allegations of attempted smuggling of OxyContin across the border.

Mike Richards investigated by RCMP for OxyContin at U.S.-Canada border
L.A. Kings broke off trade talks, placed Kenora native on waivers Sunday

NHL veteran Mike Richards is under investigation for alleged possession of a restricted substance while attempting to cross the Canada-U.S. border.

A source tells the Winnipeg Sun Manitoba RCMP are investigating, but have not laid charges, after a man was held in custody at the Emerson, Man., border crossing for at least four hours after allegedly trying to import OxyContin pills on June 17.

Emerson is one hour south of Winnipeg.

The Los Angeles Kings, who'd been trying to trade Richards, got word of the investigation during the first round of the NHL draft, Friday.

Reports indicate the Kings immediately broke off trade talks, and placed Richards on unconditional waivers on Sunday.

On Monday, the team took the unusual step of terminating Richards' contract, citing the 30-year Kenora native for “a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Players Contract.”

“We are not prepared to provide any more detail or to discuss the underlying grounds for the contract termination at this time,” the Kings said in a statement.

Richards had five years remaining on the deal, with an average salary of $5.75 million per season.

The termination caps a tumultuous season for the two-time Stanley Cup champion, whose declining play, combined with his salary, left him unwanted by the Kings or any other NHL organization.

He eventually wound up in the American Hockey League.

OxyContin is a narcotic pain reliever that is legal with a prescription.

A person crossing the border with the pills, but no prescription, would face having them seized and could be charged with possession under the Criminal Code's Controlled Drugs and Substances Act or with smuggling under the Canada Customs Act.

The RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency would not confirm their investigation, citing privacy concerns.

“We have not charged Mike Richards with anything,” RCMP spokesperson Tara Seel told the Winnipeg Sun, Tuesday, not confirming whether Richards has even been questioned. “In terms of an ongoing investigation, we cannot discuss who or who may not be investigated.”

Calls to Newport Sports Management, the agency that handles Richards' NHL affairs, were not immediately returned.

The NHL Players Association, which could appeal the contract termination, says it's gathering information and won't offer a comment.

Richards won Stanley Cups with the Kings in 2012 and 2014, after previously acting as captain of the Philadelphia Flyers.

His production has fallen from career highs of 31 goals and 80 points with the Flyers to five goals and 16 points in 53 games with the Kings this past season.

In 710 career regular-season games, Richards has accumulated 179 goals, 482 points, adding another 26 goals and 87 points in 124 playoff games.

He was a first-round draft pick of the Flyers in 2003 and captained Canada to a gold medal at the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championship in Grand Forks, N.D.

He also won Olympic gold with Canada at Vancouver, in 2010.

Cody Hodgson has been given his outright release by the Sabres.

He seemed to have decent offensive talent when drafted by the Canucks. Not so sure about the defensive side of rhe game. Some fans were upset by the trade. He seemed to have a very loyal fan following here. His star faded in Buffalo.

What the heck happened?

I think there was lots of blame towards how the Canucks dealt with his injury status. Not sure I can agree with that.

First tound draft pick in his year.

Blame the teams? Over-rated talent? Parental interference? Gillis seemed relieved at his departure.

Dunno ... But I was surprised to see his star fade so completely in Buffalo.

I recall at the time of that trade for Kassian, Gillis commented that he spent more time managing Hodgson and his issues (without much elaboration on what these were IIRC) in his time as a Canuck than he did on the rest of the team, combined. Wherever Gillis is now he's probably thinking, "I told you so."
