Start of the free agent frenzy today. The day General Managers goes crazy and hand out outrageous contracts for often underachieving players. You don't build your team by signing expensive FA's but that doesn't stop GM's from handing them out. Going to be an interesting day.

Goaltender. Miller? We need an experienced one.

Two high level forwards.

We have needs. I expect Benning and Linden to be reasonable, however. We do have a lot of cap room.

Canucks sign Ryan Miller. Fills a big need.

$6M salary hit seems what one would expect for a goalie of his calibre.

The Vancouver Canucks have signed unrestricted free-agent goaltender Ryan Miller to a three-year contract worth an average annual value of $6 million.

Miller was traded to the St. Louis Blues at the 2014 trade deadline after spending the first 11 years of his career with the Buffalo Sabres. The 33-year-old had a record of 25-30-4 with a 2.64 goals against average and a .918 save percentage over 59 combined games with the Sabres and Blues in 2013-2014.

After a disappointing first round exit against the Chicago Blackhawks in the playoffs, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong announced that Brian Elliott and Jake Allen would be the Blues' goaltending tandem next season, leaving Miller as the odd man out.

The American is coming off the final year of a five-year contract that had an average annual value of $6.250 million. He won the 2010 Vezina Trophy and took home a silver medal at the Vancouver Olympics.

In 559 career games, Miller has a 294-194-57 record with a 2.59 GAA and .915 save percentage with 29 shutouts. He was originally selected by Buffalo in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Canucks overpaid Miller who is on the downward side of his career.

75 signings for $502 million. GM's acting like drunken sailors throwing $$$$$ at players.

$14 million in cap space and a need for a top four defenceman and the best Ken Holland can come up with are two guys to shore up Grand Rapids and Kyle f'ing Quincey. I've seen enough.

Somewhat surprised that Benning didn't land a much needed scorer. Apparently the Canucks were in the running for Jarome Iginla's services but he opted for Colorado.

Jim Benning
On the job only a few weeks, the Vancouver GM has had a solid launch. Benning gets the best goaltender out there, even if a bit of the lustre went off Ryan Miller in St Louis. OK, he had to swallow a bitter pill with the trade of Ryan Kesler to Anaheim, but even at that he made the best of a horrific situation. In Jake Virtanen and Jared McCann, the two first-rounders from his first Canucks draft, Benning added two of the best pure skaters in the class. Miller’s signing suggests that Benning might be engineering a turnaround and not digging out the foundation for a rebuild.

Re: Iginla- I liked the pundits logic that stated he'd stay in the east. Would probably better suit his age/game based on their logic.

Canucks are still a long way from being a serious contender. Haven't really address the issue of lack of scoring.

Jarome is sure shopping himself around from year to year. Chasing that elusive Stanley Cup? LOL

Probably too expensive for our budget, and at his age.

Had a great career. A Stanley Cup on his resume will cap it off. Ray Bourque left Boston to realize his ultimate dream with Colorado

Vrbata isn't a bad pickup today although the $5 million per seems slightly rich. Could fit with Sedins. Right winger and decent skater. He's absolutely not afraid to shoot the puck. He's always up in the 250 shots range. If Hank gets the puck over to him in decent scoring position he won't be looking to make another pass. He will shoot.
