Rangers hung on for a 2-1 final. The Kings were all over the Rangers outshooting them 15-1. Henrik Lundquist was outstanding in goal. Rangers' lone shot came at the 12 minute mark of the period.

Happened to catch the last 4 minutes. About all I need of the NHL these days. Nice to see the Rangers win one. IMO the series has not been that one sided.

The Kings have an amazing roster. Unbelievable in these days of salary caps, free agency and so many teams.

Good for Vigneault. Rick Nash looks like some kind of shadow of himself.

That might be all we can expect from the Rangers. The Kings are loaded. Carter. Kopitar. I thought Gaborik was going to pot the tieing goal, as he often does. But it got stopped in traffic. Exciting finish. Little Bettman must be in Heaven. New York and Los Angeles in the finals.

And why the heck is it that neither team seems to be pummeling the opposition the way the Bruins and Hawks did to the Canucks? :dizzy: Our Swedes got no respect. Too soft? Ummm ... If our Swedes had been Vikings, it would have been different I am sure.

Ten seconds of Don Cherry in his clown suit was more than enough. Along with his sidekick, beady eyed Ron McLean.
John Madden's Team Policies: Be on time. Pay attention. Play like hell on game day.

Jimmy Johnson's Game Keys: Protect the ball. Make plays.

Walter Payton's Advice to Kids: Play hard. Play fair. Have fun.

Heck of a game underway. Tied 2-2 in 2nd overtime. Both teams had glorious opportunities to win it but the goalies have been outstanding.

Rick Nash from the side also had a great chance at an open net that deflected off the stick of Voynov and off target.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Alec Martinez puts a rebound past Lundqvist for the GWG in 2OT. Kings win their 2nd Cup in three seasons.

Agree with you there! I wanted NYR to keep the series alive but overall they played more solidly as for long stretches as the announcers said btwn periods 'NY can't win playing defence.'

Bad way to loss for NYR with guys tired and puck watching and letting the 4th liner score a nice goal.

Crazy posts in OT both ways.

Vigneault will be frustrated as they buried themselves fast in this series and that hole was just too much.

Credit those LA players - amazing how they attacked in packs of 5 whereas NYR would seem to attack at times with their D far behind.

Now is their ASST COACH heading for a Canuck interview?

Los Angeles must be one of the more resilient teams. They trail the first and second series 3-0 then rally to win in 7.

So they are a modern dynasty right  The Sutters were hockeys first family back when I actually cared about the NHL. Now, I barely care what the Canucks are doing. I still haven't caught the replay of the cup winning goal. That is one of the things I've always LOVED about hockey. It must feel so good to bang in an OVERTIME cup-winning goal......

The NHL handed out it's award tonight

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=455628

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby won his second Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player Tuesday night at the league's post-season awards ceremony in Las Vegas.

Crosby also collected the Art Ross Trophy as the league scoring champion and the Ted Lindsay Award as the players' choice for the NHL's most outstanding player.

Boston goalie Tuukka Rask won the Vezina Trophy, and Bruins teammate Patrice Bergeron won his second Selke Trophy as the NHL's best defensive forward. Chicago's Duncan Keith won his second Norris Trophy as the league's top defenceman.

Colorado coach Patrick Roy won the Adams Award, while Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon became the youngest player to win the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie.

Crosby cleaned up at the NHL's awards show after a fruitful season that included a gold medal as Canada's captain at the Sochi Olympics. He led the league with 104 points, including 68 assists in his fifth career 100-point season. Crosby scored in 60 of his 80 games, never going more than two games without a point for the Metropolitan Division champion Penguins.

Crosby hadn't won the Hart Trophy since 2007, but the 26-year-old centre handily beat out Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf and Philadelphia captain Claude Giroux. Crosby received 128 of the 137 first-place votes from a panel of hockey writers, while Getzlaf finished second in the balloting.

In his acceptance speech, Crosby thanked his teammates and family.

"I appreciate all the sacrifices you've made to allow me to play the game I love every day," Crosby said.

The winners of the league's statistical awards also were recognized at the ceremony in the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas. Washington's Alex Ovechkin accepted his fourth Richard Trophy as the NHL's top goal-scorer, while Jonathan Quick and the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings won their first Jennings Trophy for the NHL's fewest goals allowed.

Dominic Moore of the New York Rangers won the Masterton Trophy, an award for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Colorado's Ryan O'Reilly won the Lady Byng Trophy for his sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct after scoring a career-best 64 points while committing just one minor penalty all year.

Anaheim general manager Bob Murray was voted the NHL's general manager of the year after building the Ducks into the two-time Pacific Division champions and the Western Conference's top regular-season team.

Roy was chosen the NHL's top coach in his first season behind the Colorado bench. The Hall of Fame goalie led the Avalanche from 29th place in the overall league standings to third this season, going 52-22-8 and winning the Central Division.

Bergeron beat out Los Angeles' Anze Kopitar and Chicago captain Jonathan Toews for the Selke, which he also won in 2012. The smooth two-way forward, who also won the NHL Foundation Player Award for his charitable work, won a league-high 1,015 faceoffs while finishing second in the NHL with a career-best plus-38 rating.

Rask went 36-15-6 and finished in the top five in every major statistical category to win his first Vezina for Boston, which claimed the Presidents' Trophy with the NHL's best regular-season record. The NHL's general managers chose Rask in a narrow vote over Colorado's Semyon Varlamov, who finished fourth in the Hart Trophy balloting.

Keith comfortably beat out Boston captain Zdeno Chara and Nashville's Shea Weber for the Norris, which he also won in 2010. Keith, who led all defencemen with 55 assists while leading the Blackhawks in ice time for the ninth straight season, is the only active NHL defenceman with multiple Norris wins.

MacKinnon was a runaway winner of the Calder, receiving 130 of the 137 first-place votes. The No. 1 overall pick doesn't turn 19 until Sept. 1, beating Carolina's Jeff Skinner in 2011 as the youngest player to claim the trophy.

Moore returned to the NHL this season after sitting out a year to be with his wife, Katie, who died from a rare form of liver cancer in January 2013. The 33-year-old forward thanked his family and teammates.

"I've had a lot of good examples of perseverance over the years, and none more so than my wife, Katie," Moore said. "So this award is very meaningful, and I'm very grateful."

Edmonton's Andrew Ference won the King Clancy Award for humanitarian contributions to hockey, while Los Angeles captain Dustin Brown won the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award for his charitable work.

Do you like the new rules introduced this season?
NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League announced today a series of rules changes for the 2014-15 season, following approval earlier in the summer by the League's Board of Governors and the National Hockey League Players' Association:

Rule 1.8 – Rink - Goalkeeper's Restricted Area

The trapezoid will be expanded by two feet from the goal post on both sides of the net.

Rule 23 – Game Misconduct Penalties

A new Game Misconduct category will be created. Clipping, charging, elbowing, interference, kneeing, head-butting and butt-ending move from the general category into the same category as boarding and checking from behind ("Physical Fouls"), whereby a player who incurs two such game misconducts in this category would now be automatically suspended for one game.

Rule 24 – Penalty Shot

The 'Spin-O-Rama' move, as described in Section 24.2 of the 2013-14 NHL Rule Book, will no longer be permitted either in Penalty Shot situations or in the Shootout.

Rule 38 – Video Goal Judge

Video review will be expanded in the following areas:

* Rule 38.4 (viii) has been modified to allow broader discretion to Hockey Operations to assist the referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g., to ensure they are "good hockey goals"). The revised Rule will allow Hockey Operations to correct a broader array of situations where video review clearly establishes that a "goal" or "no goal" call on the ice has been made in error. The new expanded rule will also allow Hockey Operations to provide guidance to referees on goal and potential goal plays where the referee has blown his whistle (or intended to blow his whistle) after having lost sight of the puck.

* In reviewing "Kicked in Goals," Hockey Operations will require more demonstrable video evidence of a "distinct kicking motion" in order to overrule a "goal" call on the ice, or to uphold a "no goal" call on the ice.

Rule 57 – Tripping

The rule relating to "Tripping" will be revised to specifically provide that a two minute minor penalty will be assessed when a defending player "dives" and trips an attacking player with his body/arm/shoulder, regardless of whether the defending player is able to make initial contact with the puck.

But, in situations where a penalty shot might otherwise be appropriate, if the defending player "dives" and touches the puck first (before the trip), no penalty shot will be awarded. (In such cases, the resulting penalty will be limited to a two-minute minor penalty for tripping.)

Rule 64 – Diving / Embellishment

The supplementary discipline penalties associated with Rule 64.3 (Diving/Embellishment) will be revised to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties. Fines will be assessed to players and head coaches on a graduated scale outlined below.

Incident # Player Fine(s) Head Coach Fine(s)
1 Warning N/A
2 $2,000 N/A
3 $3,000 N/A
4 $4,000 $2,000
5 $5,000 $3,000
6 $5,000 $4,000
7 $5,000 $5,000
8 $5,000 $5,000

Rule 76 – Face-offs

To curb delay tactics on face-offs after icing infractions, in situations where the defending team is guilty of a face-off violation, following an icing, the defending player who is initially lined up for the face-off will be given a warning, but will be required to remain in the circle to take the face-off. A second face-off violation by the defending team in such situation will result in a two minute minor bench penalty.

Rule 84 – Overtime

* Teams will switch ends prior to the start of overtime in the regular season.

* The entire ice surface will undergo a "dry scrape" prior to the start of overtime in the regular season.

* The procedure requiring the head coach to submit a list of the first three shooters in the shoot-out has been eliminated.

Rule 85 – Puck Out of Bounds

There have been further rule changes made relating to face-off location to avoid penalizing teams for plays intended to create bona fide scoring opportunities. Specifically, the following are "categories of plays" where face-offs will remain in the attacking zone despite the fact that the attacking team was technically responsible for the stoppage in play: Shots at the net by a player on the attacking team where: (i) the shot breaks the glass; (ii) the shot goes off the side of the net and deflects out of play; (iii) the shot goes off the dasher boards or glass and deflects out of play; (iv) the shot is tipped or deflected out of play by a teammate; and (v) the shot becomes wedged in or on the exterior of the goal net.

In addition, the following rule change will be enacted for the 2014 preseason and may be continued for the 2014/15 regular season if approved by the League and the NHLPA.

Rule 1.9 – Rink – Face-off Spots and Circles – Ice Markings/Hash Marks

The hash marks at the end zone circles will be moved from three feet apart to five feet, seven inches apart (international markings).
