How to look stupid, Buyfuglien. :thdn:

How to slash an ankle, Bolland. :thdn: Very dirty play. Slash the ankle of Daniel Sedin. Send that film to the league office, Canucks. Not as if they will do anything about it. But get it on the record.

Solid game, Luongo. Better than solid. Top of the line. As good as it gets. Stick to the business.

Hope Sami is OK.

Great win. Play hard. That is all we can ask.
Actually Burrows did not screen him, neimi just blew it.

Second.. and this hurts me to say but Sammi will not be ok. Blowing out a nut can never be good.

UGLY! I don't know what it is going to take but the excuses change. This year is the undermanned/injured defense (IMO). Past years it was lack of scoring. Certainly goaltending was awful at times.

I personally think the Blackhawks can not use a similar gameplan they used to beat the Canucks against the Sharks. The Refs and/or Sharks will hurt them. Oh well, looks like my favourite pro sports team the BC Lions can now have the spotlight (until mid September, anyway).

Demitra coughs up the puck on a power play. Game over. I would not expect him to be back next year. $4 M should be better spent. Where was the guy who led the Olympics in scoring and looked dangerous all the time?

1st period was OK by Luongo. Not much offence generated throughout the game it seems.

Glad Salo is OK.

Agree about Chicago. I kind of hate that team, even though I respect Toews, Keith, Seabrook and Sharp. Seems like Quenneville likes a bunch of hacker/slashers on the team: Burish, Bolland, Ladd, et cetera.

I hope the Sharks kick their butts all over the ice.
.............

Bring on the football season.

I beleive the Canucks were doomed when they named their goalie as captain. stupid stupid stupid. The goalie needs to just concentrate on his goaltending with no other responsibiliy at all, big or small. There is only so much a goalie can do during a game. Canucks lacked on ice leadership, cohesion, and chemistry.

Nope. They were doomed in 1972. ;)

With so many "career years" I really thought they could take a serious run at it this season.

Instead it will be "Remember the year Henrik won the scoring title, was a Hart Trophy finalist, Kesler (likely) wins the Selke, we had Luongo and still didn't get past the 2nd round?"

Their playoff shortcomings at GM Place has to be alarming. That's 5 straight home playoff losses to the Hawks and the three games this season weren't even close. And this was a team that had the best home ice record in the Western Conference this season. Do they feel the pressure perhaps?
In the end, the Western Conference playoffs end up going to form with the top two seeds advancing, while the Eastern Conference maybe thrown upside down.

Agree with the bit on Demitra as he was a real wild card if he could play at the level he showed at the Olympics. They really need at least one top end defenceman. Keith and Seabrook log a ton of ice time and were the difference in the series.

As WC Joe says ... Bring on the football season.

Uh...not quite yet.

Congratulations to the Montreal Canadiens, Canada's Team, on defeating first the President's Trophy winners, and now the defending Stanley Cup Champions.

The goalie needs to be the best of the two goalies on the ice on any given night, Luongo certainly hasn't been that on more than 20% of the playoff games. Time to reset the concept that he is a top tier goalie, unfortunately the Canucks are saddled with his contract for the foreseeable future.

Entertaining season. High scoring team. Inconsistent. Lots of disappointments.

I have to agree with those that think there is a need for more Canadian grit.

That European skill (Sedins, Samuelsson, Ehrhoff, Edler, Salo, etc.) is much appreciated, but IMO we do not have as much character, determination, leadership and grit that guys like Toews, Keith and Seabrook bring to a team.

BTW I do now hate the BlackHawks, and hope they get crushed by the Sharks. It will be interesting to see if Quenneville's rats (Burish, Bolland, Eager, Byfuglien, etc.) are allowed to hack and slash at Thornton, Heatley and Marleau as they were allowed to do to the Sedins. Somehow I think they will not get away with it as much.

Luongo will be a top tier goalie again, specially if the dont have him as captain. Luongo would have have to put in the, best performance ever by any goalie in a playoff series, for the Canucks to have had any chance to win. I say this not being a Luongo fanatic. There are a few goalies in the league I like better.

Luongo at his very best is pretty special.

However, he is at his very best less and less, and seems to have an equal number of shockers. His average play is good, but you don't want to be tied to a good goalie on a 10 year contract.

The two goals in the third period were sad - he looked like he had already checked out.

All three Olympic goalies have looked off as of late. 2014 could see a whole new slate of Canadian netminders.

As much as I hate the BlackHawks, I have to give them credit for their playoff style hockey. They are running over Nabokov now just as they ran over Luongo. Nabokov freaked out too. He was looking to draw an interference penalty but he was way outside the crease. He is distracted by the net presence of the Hawks.

And Thornton is freaking the same way Daniel Sedin did with Bolland hacking at them.

It is ugly what the Hawks are doing, but it works.

They have taken the Idea of "net presence" or "crashing the crease" to new levels. Ugly but effective. At the other end when the Sharks try it the Hawks have forwards in the slot blocking the shot.

They are doing what they have to, to win. When they let the Canucks play a skill game, the Canucks did very well. So they went to the "rat" game: Bolland, Eager, Burish, etc. And lots of net crashing.

At this point, I can't see any team stopping the Hawks. Plus they have the best player in the playoffs, Jonathan Toews. By a mile. He seems to have a lot of Yzerman and Sakic's qualities.

I haven't been watching every minute of the Stanley Cup finals but I've enjoyed the stuff I have caught. It has been nice watching Buffdust and Pronger whack at each other like lumberjacks. The Hawks seem destined to win because their so-called 'best' players haven't done much, IMO. Well at least one cities Stanley Cup drought will come to an end soon.
