Re: Questions for Ambrosie?

Ah those prairie folks. Seems to me it wasn't that long ago they used to wear colder weather games like a badge of honour and felt they gave them a big home field advantage. Give them a couple shiny new stadiums with a few creature comforts they never used to enjoy and they turn soft. Funny thing a...

Re: Questions for Ambrosie?

Ambrosie met with Winnipeg fans on Monday in the seventh stop on his 10-city tour (including Halifax). He said season ticket holders he has met in the Prairie cities are 95% in favour of moving up the schedule. I'm not convinced of his math but he seems to be determined, no matter what he says about...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

I hope the Leos sign a free agent from a team other than Edmonton. Just to prove Hervey is not wearing blinders  After Adam Konar I hope. This team needs more local identity IMHO. DH  Not going to happen, unfortunately. He re-upped in Edmonton. https://twitter.com/EdmontonEsks/st...

Alex Bazzie signs in Edmonton
For a reportedly $160,000 per season. Just wow.
The Esks need help on the defensive line after trading away Odell Willis (now with B.C.) and releasing Phillip Hunt and Marcus Howard. I wish Bazzie well in Edmonton but I'd rather have Willis.

Re: Pending Lions free agents

OL Joel Figueroa signs 1 year contract with BC He's the free-agent OL who makes the most sense for B.C. since he's a starting left tackle. That will likely allow Antonio Johnson to return to the right side, and Hunter Steward to remain at left guard. With Cody Husband at centre, the Lions should ha...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

Ed Willes gives an update on the future of pending free agent Travis Lulay, who is leaning toward returning if and when his surgically repaired knee is healthy again. “I don’t want to say I’m coming back stronger in 2018 and I don’t want to say I can’t take it any more,” Lulay says over the phone. “...

Re: Questions for Ambrosie?

Rick LeLacheur also replied to my email, and offered some encouraging words. Hi Lorne Thanks for your note. You have a number of valid points many I share. I am not convinced at this point that we should move the season ahead but as Randy said there is still going to be a lot more study and discussi...

Re: Questions for Ambrosie?

It took less than four hours for Randy Ambrosie to reply to my email. I give him credit for engaging fans as well as other stakeholders in league decisions. Hi Lorne, thanks for your note. I truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this issue. Rest assured that no final decisions will be made w...

Re: Questions for Ambrosie?

I've sent the following email to Randy Ambrosie, with a copy to Rick LeLacheur, registering my objection to the prospect of moving up the schedule by three weeks. Dear Mr. Commissioner, I applaud much of what you have done in your first year as CFL commissioner but as a longtime B.C. Lions season ti...

Re: Questions for Ambrosie?

It is hard to believe that he thinks a 3-week swing in November is going to significantly move the attendance needle (versus the disaster the would befall teams going up against Canadian teams in the NHL playoffs). I applaud most everything he's done thus far (hard to believe the governors picked O...

Re: Questions for Ambrosie?

I watched Ambrosie’s event online. There were only about 60 people watching on Facebook so there may have been more people at the live event. It seemed to go well, with a lot of positive discussion and no real surprises. One minor surprise related to the first question to Ambrosie, which was about m...

Re: Odell Willis headed to B.C.

I didn't even know that you could advance a fumble by kicking it forward. I thought that was illegal? DH  That's American football. Anything goes in Canadian football, including dribbled balls, kickbacks, onside punt and field-goal recoveries and drop kicks for field goals. (I think one of th...

Re: Questions for Ambrosie?

I don’t have a question but I want to register my strong opposition to moving up the schedule. NHL playoffs dominate the sports news in Vancouver and many Canadian cities until mid-June, and NBA playoffs are a factor in Toronto. The CFL operates in a vacuum until those leagues finish their playoffs....

Re: Pending Lions free agents

I can't see why on earth we need to look for a receiver unless we have lost someone that I am not aware of? It is one part of the team where we really aren't hurting too much. The Lions traded Chris Williams and have yet to re-sign Nick Moore. Marco Iannuzzi retired, so they have only three startin...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

Montreal could pay him the most, but they have no QB and likely will finish dead last. I think Hervey will go after him, but they really need to sign 1 or 2 OL in free agency. That is their greatest need. I don't see any offensive linemen on the CFL free-agent list who would be an upgrade on what t...
