Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
It's complicated but the basic team salary cap for 2024 is $5.525 million, plus $110,000 for non-football-related services such as player marketing, travel and housing, for a total of $5.635 million, plus a player share of any league revenue growth, if applicable. In all of the recent salary disclo...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Disappointing to hear of a new "marketing" category that falls outside of the SMS allowing Winnipeg to register Dalton Schoen's reported $230,000 contract as $190,000. Why bother to have a salary cap at all? The easiest thing to do is to play by the rules at least at the management level....

Re: 2024 CFL draft (Lion's picks)
Ok - so Ringland & States-McClean added to Greene, Bagayago & Rene = pretty decent collection/competition of Canadian secondary guys. They could maybe think of a National starting at both corner and safety on the D (doubtful, but maybe?) The Lions have signed 2 former NFLers whose experienc...

Re: 2024 CFL draft (Lion's picks)
The CFL changed its format for the 2 bonus picks at the end of the 2nd round. Previously they went to the two teams with the worst record. They were awarded with a territorial pick that could only be used on a player domiciled in the drafting team's territory as per CFL Bylaws and Constitution. Thi...

Re: VA extended through 2026 season
VA’s contract details, per Farhan Lalji: roughly $400,000 this year, $500,000 in 2025 and a bit more in 2026.

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Justin Dunk of 3downnation.com, citing sources, said White signed a 2-year deal worth $265,00 this year, so he still got about $30,000 more than other top receivers in this year’s market. EDIT: According to TSN’s Dave Naylor, White will make less than $200,000 in hard money this year, maxing out aro...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
I knew about Harris returning to the junior ranks and believe it has already increased an awareness of the team and league across the country. I will follow as best possible just out of curiosity. Without looking I presently know of no other teams in the league. At least three current Lions came to...

Lions' receivers
The topic has been touched on in the free agency thread, but one of the biggest questions heading into training camp is who will replace Keon Hatcher and Lucky Whitehead in the Lions' starting receiving corps, at least until Hatcher returns from injury, which could be late in the season. Whitehead, ...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
In the Lions’ 1st and Now podcast, Matt Baker and Nik Kowalski summarize free agency and look ahead to some of positional battles expected in training camp, with some of the biggest question marks being in the secondary. Baker said the Lions are not expected to make any further moves in free agency....

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
The 2024 market for receivers is set. Schoen, Hollins and Hatcher all signed for $220,000 to $230,000. Rhymes signed for less. White is good but he isn’t worth a lot more than the other FAs.

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
And the Lions address their secondary by signing halfback Ciante Evans on yet another one-year contract. https://www.bclions.com/2024/02/14/lions-add-two-time-division-all-star-ciante-evans-to-secondary/ All in all a pretty impressive haul the last 24 hours addressing various needs. Evans will cert...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Ottawa has signed Phillip Norman to a one-year deal. He has certainly paid his dues as a utility lineman who can step into any position and play well.

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
3:10 p.m. EST — It isn’t easy being a veteran American pass rusher these days. Shawn Oakman, Dylan Wynn, Almondo Sewell, A.C. Leonard, Ja’Gared Davis and Woody Baron are all unsigned as we head into hour three. I thought Wynn might be a good option for the Lions if they were serious about getting m...
