Re: Adam Bighill and the tackle stats problem - Mike Beamish

I criticized Beamish for a weak article after the regular season finale, so I'd be remiss in not belatedly complimenting him for this. What a brilliant article. It should be forwarded to every hack who voted for Sherritt. I noticed that one of the gripes of CFL reporters in the Calgary Herald's ann...

Re: Free Agents?

Even if he doesn't get any great offers down south, Gore on the open CFL market is scary. Would be huge demand for him. Agreed. That's where his bargaining power will be. I can't think of a team that wouldn't want him. As a Toronto native, he would be an instant non-import upgrade and marketing ass...

Re: O Line drafts and lack of development over 10 years

Two B.C. draft picks who were deemed expendable, Andrew Jones and Justin Sorensen, have become fixtures on other teams. Sorensen is the starting centre in Winnipeg. Jones has been a part-time starter in Toronto and will be playing in the Grey Cup for his hometown Argos. The Lions let him go in the o...

Re: Toronto sports media ..Not Argo friendly(SUX2012)

Thanks for the update, Ravi, and good luck to the Argos on Sunday. It is good for the league that they're hosting the Cup. I wouldn't mind seeing them win it. I've had the pleasure of being in B.C. Place twice when the home team has won it, and the experience is priceless.

Re: The Old 4 Discussion

One of my fears as a fan is watching my team try to squeeze one too many years out of too many players at the same time. BC is largely a veteran team. There is a fine line between being a veteran team and being an old team. The problem with older players isn't as much whether or not they can be &qu...

Re: Stampeders 34 - Lions 29, Post Game Stats and Comments

Great story about Eric Fraser's development Lions4ever. There was a telling quote in yesterday's Province. The second-down play figured to result in a blitz by the Lions, and Glenn found Marquay McDaniel behind safety Cauchy Muamba with ridiculous ease. The 68-yard score was one of seven completion...

Re: Stampeders 34 - Lions 29, Post Game Stats and Comments

Fraser may be an upgrade on Muamba in terms of experience, if not athleticism, but It's not fair to say that Muamba crapped the bed in WF unless you blame him for the communication breakdowns in the secondary. He didn't have coverage responsibilities on any of Calgary's big plays.

Re: Monday morning quarterback - some tough questions....

Outcoached? Definitely. But it was because the Lions who were aggressive and took costly risks on defence while the Stamps played conservatively and kept everything in front of them. When the Lions tried to go deep, two Stamps were there. When the Stamps tried to go deep, no Lions were there. Yea, ...

Re: Dennis Skulsky's "state of the nation" on TEAM1040 today

For most parents in the burbs, getting their young kids to bed approaching midnight or later can't be a very fan-friendly part of the equation, even on Fri or Sat nights when most games are played. I never bothered to observe as you suggested the age distribution closely for the three day games thi...

Re: Monday morning quarterback - some tough questions....

Why wasn't a challenge flag thrown earlier on Calgary's last TD? I am still not convinced he got across the line .... I'm also not using that as an excuse for the loss as we were clearly outplayed All touchdowns are automatically reviewed. All that is needed is for ball to touch the plane of the go...

The game attracted an average audience of 2 million on TSN and RDS, a 3% increase from last year's game against Edmonton. The East final drew 1.9 million viewers.

Re: The Old 4 Discussion

The number of big pass plays of 30 yards or more was up 25% across the league this year. The Lions' number was down 32% from 28 in 2011 (third in the league) to 19 in 2012 (last in the league). Some of that was due to Lulay's shoulder but much was due to Simon and Bruce being unable to get separatio...

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES: Paul McCallum: His field goal kicking was as solid as ever in the second half of the season and he had one of his best punting days of the season in the West Final but he doesn't have the leg of younger punters. It's time for Hugh O'Neil. Geroy Simon: He's become an expensi...

Re: How do you view the season?

Calling 13-6 a "total failure" is negative hyperbole. People have been spoiled by the Lions' success in recent years. 16 straight playoff appearances, the 4th longest streak in league history. 6 first place finishes in 9 seasons. 8 division final appearances in 9 seasons. 4 Grey Cup appea...
