Re: Simon Says

I have always been a Paris Jackson fan. He has had big years. And he had a great TD catch in the 2006 Grey Cup. He has always been outstanding with the fans. For years the Lions lacked depth at receiver, both import and non import. Suddenly we are deep in both areas. KJ goes down, and we have 3 to ...

Re: Ticket Prices / Lions' Marketing

Just saw an ad on Global TV News Hour tonight for Friday night's game. Whether that will help increase the buzz meter and translate to more butts in the seats remains to be seen, but at lease they're increasing awareness. The club needs to draw as much attention as possible. The local sports...

Re: CFL Week 4 Preview, Odds and Post Game Comments

Mike Beamish has the answer at Tuesday's practice: Mike Beamish ‏@sixbeamers Nick Moore taking first- team reps in place of injured B.C. Lions wide receiver Kierrie Johnson (broken forearm). I'm glad to see Moore get a chance after a great camp and preseason. He is a natural slotback but since Geroy...

Re: CFL Week 4 Preview, Odds and Post Game Comments

I missed Mike Benevides' radio show Monday and for the first time since training camp couldn't find any news on the Lions. Did he say who is expected to replace Kierrie Johnson in the lineup?

Re: Eskimos this week...

A review is normal but it most likely will result in the standard undisclosed fines (the maximum is half a game cheque, IIRC). Three players were fined after Week 1, two of them for throwing punches.

Re: Three games into the 2012 season, how are we doing?

Three games into the season is a bit early to identify trends but since we've been giving our impressions, we might as well use the Week 3 league stats for a bit of a reality check. The general picture seems to be that the passing game is down a bit but the overall offence is up because the running ...

Re: Riders 23 - Lions 20 Post Game Stats and Comments

I thought the interior guys on the D-line would be getting more pressure, especially against teams with rebuilt O-lines. Still, the Lions are tied for second in sacks with nine (they had only four after three games last year) and their defence is second against the run and the pass through three wee...

Re: Missed Field Goals. How can we prevent those long return

Mike Benevides said Sunday that the Lions do in fact have a special field goal unit for long attempts where a runback is possible. It wasn't used on Saturday because the coaches thought the kicks were in McCallum's range. “You can tweak some personnel, but you can’t tweak all of them,” Benevides sai...

Re: Missed Field Goals. How can we prevent those long return

I've heard of teams having a regular field goal unit, with five O-linemen up front, and a long field goal unit, using more athletic players as blockers and potential downfield tacklers. The Lions don't do that, and I'm not sure about the current practices of other teams. The rub is that long field g...

Re: Game Day Thread, Lions @ Riders, July 14, 2012

The replay showed the Harris play was a forward pass by at least a yard. He did the right thing by picking it up but the play was correctly blown dead.

Re: Three games into the 2012 season, how are we doing?

Week 3 isn't over and I don't feel like crunching a lot of numbers when the league will do it for me tomorrow, but the Lions are near the top of the league in scoring and defence (second against the pass, just behind Toronto, for example). The defence is tied for the league lead in sacks. Geroy Simo...

Re: Game Day Thread, Lions @ Riders, July 14, 2012

I take the view that any criticism of the officials is whining. It's disrespectful to the officials and the criticism is misplaced. Cromartie makes a good point that missed calls or questionable calls go both ways. If you win, you deserve credit. If you lose, you deserve criticism. The officials did...

Some apparent good news on the injury front:
Farhan Lalji ‏@FarhanLaljiTSN
@BCLions say @geroysimon finger was dislocated, not broken. He says he's fine and will play on Friday. #CFLonTSN

Re: Game Day Thread, Lions @ Riders, July 14, 2012

Does the secondary look passive? I'm playing devils advocate in asking this question, because I can take or leave either answer, and I'll bring up a couple of things in opposition to that statement: In the second half of last week's game, you lost Phillips due to injury, Parker due to injury and Mc...
