Re: 2018 schedule

With an extra bye week in the 2018 schedule, everything moves up. The first preseason game is May 27. The first Lions' preseason game is June 1 in Calgary. That's usually the week when players are just reporting to training camp.

Re: Lions trade Chris Williams to Montreal for Gabe Knapton

Williams ran a lot of slants from the wideout position in Ottawa. They were designed to get the ball to him quickly and let him use his speed to either turn upfield or run across field. They were much quicker passes than the crossing routes that B.C. runs. He was much more successful in that offence...

Re: Argos Sold to MLSE

This sale is just a matter of Rogers joining its other MLSE partners, including Bell, in the Argo ownership group. The biggest potential benefit for the league is that Rogers radio and TV properties, including Sportsnet, might give more coverage to the Argos.

Re: Washington 2nd frontrunner for Als Head Coaching Gig

I think that this applies to BC as well.... I think it is considerably more difficult for a DC to take on the HC role than someone who has been calling or designing offences. The DC as HC would end up being a "game planning" manager and would heavily rely on their OC for everything.... Given the ch...

Re: Lions trade Chris Williams to Montreal for Gabe Knapton

Ed Hervey discusses the trade with J.J. Adams of The Province: “You look at the depth of our wide receiving corps, with Manny Arceneaux and Bryan Burnham, and we just felt there was an opportunity to trade a quality player like Chris Williams to address an area of priority for us,” said Lions GM Ed ...

Re: Report: Lions trade Chris Williams to Montreal for Gabe Knapton

Confirmed. From bclions.com: The BC Lions Football Club today announced that it has acquired international defensive end Gabriel Knapton from the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for international wide receiver Chris Williams. Knapton (6’3”, 263) is a four-year CFL veteran and has appeared in 68 regul...

Lions trade Chris Williams to Montreal for Gabe Knapton

It makes sense to trade Williams for help on either side of the line of scrimmage. Knapton had only 3 sacks this year but he is only 28 and he had at least 9 sacks in each of the previous three years.

Re: Washington 2nd frontrunner for Als Head Coaching Gig

I’m inclined to think the Als would lean towards hiring a HC with an OC pedigree like Condell instead of a DC. Mostly because they have struggled mightily at getting stability at the QB position as well as being pretty underwhelming offensive performers since Trestman left. For that reason, I thoug...

Re: Manny Just Resigned

I don't think Manny wanted to go anywhere else at this stage of his career. Hervey is focused on retaining the team's core players, especially those who take a leadership role off the field. “Signing Emmanuel is a significant step toward our goal of keeping our core of talented and productive vetera...

Re: Whither Jonathon Jennings?

The Franklin trade has risks and potential rewards for both teams. Franklin is a potential starting QB of the future who will still become a free agent in February unless he re-signs earlier, and may have to back up Ricky Ray for another year or two if he does sign. Mason Woods is a potential starti...

Re: Football Operations: Ed Hervey - GM, Wally Buono - VP and HC

So Blake Nill lures Ti-Cats offensive coordinator and former McMaster head coach Stefan Ptaszek to the west coast to become UBC's new OC. I wonder if the Lions can do better? http://3downnation.com/2017/12/09/west-coast-shocker-former-ticats-and-mcmaster-coach-accepts-job-at-ubc/ As suggested by ot...

Re: Football Operations: Ed Hervey - GM, Wally Buono - VP and HC

According to Steve Ewen, Wally says the timing of new coaching hires is complicated by the fact that the leading candidates are up for several jobs at the same time. Asked about when the Lions expect to start putting their coaching staff together, Buono explained: “Some of that is complicated by the...
