Re: Jennings contract re-structured

In training camp Wally will expect him to show progress over last year. While he won't have playing time to compare they will be able to tell a lot by the way he conducts himself in meetings, shows better grasp of the offense, fundamentals and how he performs in drills and practice. If he does show...

Re: Lions ownership discussion thread

I have great respect for David Braley but it’s looking more and more likely that the Lions will eventually end up as part of an estate sale. I hope he’s made clear provisions for that in his will.

Re: Jennings contract re-structured

Jarious worked with Adams in Saskatchewan last year so he should know his abilities.

Re: Jennings contract re-structured

I would much rather go into the season with Adams than Mitchell Gale as a backup to Jennings. Adams could stay on the roster as the No. 3 QB if and when Lulay returns, and would be a potential heir to Jennings down the road. Interesting speculation, fellows. However, young 25-year-old Alex Ross, wh...

Re: Jennings contract re-structured

There is some speculation over at Riderfans that the Lions might have some interest in Vernon Adams. Personally, I think this could be a good fit. I don't think we can count on Lulay being ready to start the year, and we don't have anyone else on the roster who could step in for Jennings if needed....

Re: The decline of Vancouver sports media & its effect on Lions

The Lions just announced the renewal of the radio agreement with TSN 1040 for another 5 years. LeLacheur was on with Donnie and the Moj at the top of the 3rd hour. https://www.bclions.com/2018/01/17/tsn-1040-vancouver-remains-home-lions-new-multi-year-radio-partnership/ It's great to have some cert...

Re: Kevin Glenn signs with the Edmonton Eskimos

This fan likes it. This is a testament to his longevity in the CFL, his character, his knowledge of the game and his skills. He has been a quick study, picking up various offensive systems. Kevin Glenn, arguably the greatest CFL journeyman QB of all time. Nine teams, no Grey Cups. What are t...

Re: Jennings contract re-structured

How does an "incentive loaded" contract affect your salary cap if the player hits all the targets? So the Lions save cap space now, spend it on other positions and Jennings has a great year. Then he is due all that bonus money and Lions wind up going over their cap. Right? Here is my guess for how ...

Re: Lions trade for RB Brandon Rutley

I am just as confused as you about Shaq Murray-Lawrence. Wally brought him in mid-way through the season and he had that one exceptional game at RB. Wally singled him out to the team as an example of perseverance and dedication etc. He never played again. Not only that, he got in a car accident in ...

Re: Alouettes sign QB Josh Freeman

Matthew Cauz wrote an interesting column last week for cfl.ca on the eerily similar backgrounds of the most successful CFL quarterbacks. He wrote it in the context of the Johnny Manziel hype, but his point extends to Freeman. Ricky Ray was the only example cited of an American QB who had success in ...

Lions trade for RB Brandon Rutley

The Lions have acquired international running back Brandon Rutley from the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for an unnamed player on B.C.’s negotiation list. This could be a good depth signing. The Lions used Chris Rainey in a rotation with Jeremiah Johnson last year but Rainey is a different type of ...

Re: Alouettes sign QB Josh Freeman

The idea of TC fodder maybe had some merit 30 or 40 years ago when training camps lasted a month with full contact two-a-days just about every day. These days TC lasts 12 days with an average of 3 practices every 2 days and only 1 contact practice per day. With 75 players + draft picks eligible to ...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

I wouldn't say Fabien is a key piece on the O-line. He was awful last year. Don't like seeing Johnson back either, we need to really upgrade our O-line. Yes, I should have said Steward and Fabien are the two remaining national starters who have yet to be signed. I think Steward is a key piece of th...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

Just signed JOHNSON, Antonio for 2 more years. Bit surprised by this. Buono seems very high on him, me not so much. I think the Lions can do better and hope they sign guys to compete with him and not just hand him the job. Hunter Steward and Kirby Fabien are the two key pieces of the O-line remaini...

Re: Jennings contract re-structured

This is excellent news. I don’t believe it has anything to do with the O-line. The only reason to restructure Jennings’ contract is to allow Travis Lulay to share the QB position once he’s healthy. Whoever plays better will get the most money.
