Re: Playoff Thread - Conference Finals

I’m really pulling for Ricky Ray and Marc Trestman and the Toronto football market. It sounds like they’ll have a good crowd, including several thousand fans wearing green. I’d love to see a Grey Cup battle of the two best quarterbacks, Ray and Mike Reilly, but Bo Levi Mitchell would also be a worth...

Re: 10th team in Halifax - Braleys ulterior motives

Unless city and provincial politicians are prepared to come up with $200-$300 million of taxpayers dollars to build a 20k seat stadium, a 10th CFL team is just a fantasy. Nice to see some Halifax businessmen willing to benefit from taxpayer spending, though. It looks like the city doesn't wa...

Re: 10th team in Halifax - Braleys ulterior motives

I hope the pursuit of a 10th franchise in Halifax is successful but I can’t see it happening in Braley’s timeline. The most optimistic estimate is that they would have a stadium built in time for the 2020 season. I believe it took the Ottawa owners a lot longer to get up and running after they were ...

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

One CFL assistant who has been named as a head coaching candidate in Montreal is Ottawa OC Jaime Elizondo. His contract is up this year so he may be easier to sign than LaPolice. I’m not sure whether Elizondo or his predecessor Jason Maas is the architect of Ottawa’s offence but it is innovative and...

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

Thursday is apparently the last day that teams can make announcements before the Grey Cup blackout, so an announcement about Wally’s status could come soon.

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

You can likely scratch Paul LaPolice from the Lions’ coaching wish list. Mike O’Shea says LaPolice will remain In Winnipeg as OC next year. The Bombers obviously want to head off speculation but that doesn’t necessarily mean they would deny another team’s request to speak to him about a head coachin...

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

We could get some answers this week, according to Rick Dhaliwal.

@DhaliwalSports

#BCLions owner David Braley is in Vancouver meeting with coach and gm Wally Buono and the rest of this staff today. This is the week we could get answers about Buono's future.

Re: Pending Lions free agents

I would pay top dollar to keep Manny Arceneaux. Despite being hobbled by injuries this year, he was the Lions’ most consistent receiver. He could still get open deep, catch the ball in traffic and fight through tackles. He is a leader on the field and seemed to be the only offensive player who treat...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

Justin Dunk has posted a list of 25 potential Lions' free agents which differs slightly from the 25 names listed previously by Lowell Ullrich. Dunk's list includes QB Mitchell Gale, OL Andrew Jones, DE Ricky Foley and DB Buddy Jackson. It doesn't include FB/ST Alex Ogbongbemiga or LB Dyshawn Davis, ...

was it always community ownership before these 4??
Yes, and every owner except perhaps Skalbania inherited a mess.

SFU playing in the division they're in now is comparable to an AHL team playing in the NHL. They need to come back to CIAU.
Or fold the program. They’re an embarrassment to Canada.

Re: Latest BC Lions Transactions

With more than two dozen pending free agents, work on next year’s roster has to begin now. Wally needs to make his intentions known so that he or someone else can begin setting priorities and re-signing key players before they get to the open market.

New OL coach
I would vote for this group.

Kelly Bates for OL coach.

LaPo could double as OC if he wants, or bring in an OC. Buck Pierce?
I would rather have Ryan Phillips as secondary coach and hire Barron Miles as ST coordinator.

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

There are questions in Winnipeg about the future of head coach Mike O’Shea and defensive coordinator Richie Hall after the latest Bomber meltdown. I think O’Shea is safe but I wouldn't want either of them here. O’Shea is a reckless gambler who comes up short in big games. Hall is the architect of so...

Re: Playoff Thread - Edmonton vs. Winnipeg, Ottawa vs. Saskatchewan

I’ll be pulling for a battle of former Eskimo QBs, wih Ricky Ray looking as good as ever in Toronto and Jason Maas coaching the Eskimos.
