Re: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks/NHL Season Thread

Well, I guess there is a reason they play the games. My brother in law is a hockey guru. He studies the drafts, the trades and follows the league closely. He was predicting a Canucks loss based largely on the youth factor of the Canucks vs the Wild. Well that didn't work out so well. However I will ...

Re: Eskimos: change your name

Oddly enough, the Kraken is a beast of Scandanavian mythology. It had nothing to do with the Greeks.

Re: Eskimos: change your name

How about the Edmonton Rough Riders?
We have to have the Roughriders vs Rough Riders rivalry. Only in Canada you say.

Re: If No Season will the CFL fold

Without further conditions or clauses defining what constitutes a cessation, then the legal ruling will be in the favour of the party that didn't draft the contract. Obviously, the players would want this clause so that the league couldn't tie up players from playing elsewhere in the event the leagu...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

I still don't see a reasonable path forward for having a season. And I think the part of that article that resonated the most is the the following point: (If I am going to be risking my health, why on earth would I do that on reduced pay, no pension contribution, no guaranteed money etc. paraphrase)...

Re: Eskimos: change your name

Since the term Quaker's has been mentioned. That too was a derogatory name at it's inception. Used as a reference to the religious group who "tremble before god" by those that would typically persecute them. They refer to themselves as "Friends" although they have come to embrace the term Quakers as...

Re: Eskimos: change your name

I don't know about Empire. Aside from the obvious Star Wars parallels, Empire isn't exactly a positive connotation word. I mean if people are gonna complain about things like Avalanche because they kill people, what are people going to say about about a name that refers to a political structure rule...

Re: Eskimos: change your name

Well, I guess once the name is changed, Mr. Snyder won't feel the need to donate to native causes any more. Every action has a consequence. In the years to come, I wonder if any of those charities will come to regret the loss of funds?

Re: Claybrooks

Ultimately, this is the biggest beef I have with the WB era. He was basically responsible for all aspects of the franchise and IMO, he wasn't that good at looking ahead to the future. He didn't choose his surrounding cast all that well and in contrast to the Calgary experience where Huff recognized ...

Re: Claybrooks

Ultimately I wouldn't care if Claybrooks was wearing a Cherry-esque suit if the team was playing well. It wasn't. He showed many signs of a rookie head coach. There were times when decisive action was required such as in the bye week. He chose to do nothing and by the time he did, it was pretty much...

Re: Eskimos: change your name

Yeah, I always get bothered when I see the name Edmonton. On a more serious note, there is almost nothing out there by way of a name referencing people that someone can't turn into some form of derogatory meaning. Probably for the best to change it in the long run just because there is little to be ...

Re: If No Season will the CFL fold

The part that has me concerned so far is how easily the virus has returned to places where they supposedly had it licked for the most part. China, Korea, Germany and all the while, there is a massive under reporting going on in places like Brazil, Mexico, India, Russia and so on. If we knew the true...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

And this is the way it should be. Decisions like this should be made on the basis of health and safety, not economics. We have brilliant examples of what happens when the latter trumps the former. I don't care how important sports teams are to our cultural ethos, they don't get to dictate terms to t...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

Given the events of the last 24 hours in the NHL, MLB, NFL all reporting new cases of Covid positive among players and staff in some cases, the conversation just got a lot more complicated for all professional sports organizations including the CFL. We are not talking just a case here or there. Aust...
