Re: 2018 Winter Olympic Games Thread

I agree, not a bad result but Norway is country of 5.5 million give or take. So clearly there is a possibility of doing better. I am encouraged to see how team Canada has been steadily improving since the 1988 Winter Olympics. We incidentally tied Norway in medals at that time, neither winning a go...

Re: 2018 Winter Olympic Games Thread

This is not a bad result, so far.

Prior to Own the Podium, it seems to me we did not get many medals.

Now the template for success is pretty well set. Third is good. Ahead of the USA and the Netherlands, two strong Winter Olumpics countries.

Re: Pending Lions free agents

The off-season, with its focus on new free agent signings, loss of free agents, recruiting camps south of the border, and the CFL draft put a focus on the talent of our team, going into a new season. Overall, Ed Hervey has done a very good job. He looked at our major weaknesses (offensive and defen...

https://www.tsn.ca/talent/cfl-teams-release-partial-negotiation-lists-1.1005314 CFL teams release partial negotiation lists By Dave Naylor Tuesday may not amount to an historic day for the Canadian Football League, but it does mark an interesting change in the way the league has always gone about it...

Re: CFL releases partial negotiation lists for each team

Good thread, Johnny. I like this step. It takes the negotiation list somewhat out of the dark web, where conspiracies exist. Re: Pending Lions free agents

I like Hervey's moves in free agency, and I like his style. At the top of his list is Figueroa, the 6-foot-6, 320-pound, five-year CFL vet who played the last two seasons in Edmonton. The University of Miami product might not have been the sexiest signing, but for a team that desperately needed to u...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

As for Hervey and FA, a strong DL is going to make up for the only true losses of Fenner and Puriofy. Unfortunately with all the secondary talent the Lions have had, it still comes down to the DC, and he is still there for 2018. Can't see this ship really making a turnaround until 2019 when Hervey ...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

Wow. Very impressed once again with Ed H. Breath of fresh air in an organization grown very stale. New age thinking. Godin (6’2”, 250) will compete for a spot in his second training camp after returning to Laval for his final year of eligibility in 2017. The talented defensive lineman was the Lions’...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

As for who is left, I am double-checking DBs rather intently. If Yell is truly not coming back, then Owusu-Ansah is a potential candidate for the boundary corner. Jerrell Gavins, despite his diminutive stature, is pretty versatile but ended his year with an ACL injury. If Hervey is looking at avail...

Few Lions free agents still have not signed - Roh, Fabien, Moore and Yell. Yell is the most surprising.

Westerman just signed with the Als to join his brother.
Did Kirby fall off the map?

Figueroa only gets one year of reverse engineering with Dan D.

Re: Pending Lions free agents

WCJ - i wouldn't be giving up on Vandervoort as a potential very good receiver; be a different story if he had played some as a rookie and dropped a bunch of passes; but he didn't except for producing one nice 25 yard reception. Smart teams often, IMO, make thorough & deep use of their roster and s...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

I like it. Great size. Pretty good passport. A well-known asset. Not spectacular, but I think better than Vandervoort. Watson has always been known as a tough blocking receiver as well; maybe signed mostly for vet depth to replace Iannuzzi (Watson is way bigger) - playing the same part-time positio...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

Done deal now. They signed Watson today. He likely will be the Canadian to start in the receiving corps, while the guy they drafted last year will have to wait another year and be a backup. What is that now 4 or 5 ex Eskimos signed in free agency. I like it. Great size. Pretty good passport. A well...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

The BC Lions Football Club today announced that international free agent defensive tackle Euclid Cummings has signed a 2018 contract with the team. Spending the 2017 season with the Edmonton Eskimos recording 21 defensive stops and eight sacks, Cummings enters his fifth CFL season in 2018. The Geor...

Re: Pending Lions free agents

Their provincial rival, Edmonton, added a star pass-rusher in Alex Bazzie. A matter of opinion. He has slipperiness as a pass rusher. Wears down due to minimal size. https://www.cfl.ca/2018/02/13/open-market-5-highlights-day-1-free-agency/ Ed Hervey continued his focus on the trenches for the Lions...
