Re: Pending Lions free agents

Its been an interesting free agency so far and a very different one with Ed Hervey at the reins. I'm pleased with the players that Hervey has singed. Our offensive and defensive lines should be improved from last year. We had nowhere to go but up, having given up the most sacks and pressures last se...

Re: Odell Willis headed to B.C.

I feel this is a good trade for BC and they gave up very little to get him. However, considering he is 33, it is likely for a year or 2. This is more of a Hervey move than a Buono one. Buono tends to cut players when they have a year or 2 left. Clearly, he is on board with this for BC needs experie...

Re: Odell Willis headed to B.C.

Personally I think the Riders made the better deal today. Agreed. The Riders now have two of the league’s best pass rushers in Jefferson and Hughes. It took some complicated deals with East Division teams the Lions and Riders have both bolstered their D-lines at the expense of the Stamps and Eskimo...

Re: Menard has re-signed with the Lions

Menard was 2nd on our Leos in 2017 in quarterback sacks, even though he was only a rotational player who had limited reps. Menard has been one of my Leo faves since his rookie season. I posted several times, during 2016, that he should be getting reps, when he was being limited to special teams only...

Re: Shaq Johnson signs new contract

What 'older' :) die hard Leos fan could ever forget Sonny Homer....or tight end Pat Claridge for that matter. I'm very happy about seeing Shaq Johnson signed. He has speed, which I think is very important for the National field side wide out position. Johnson had 30 receptions for 521 yards last sea...

Hervey Aquires Brandon Rutley

Ed Hervey has just traded for Brandon Rutley. We got him from Montreal for future considerations. I like Rutley. He had a 5.1 yard average last season on a bad Montreal offence. He will either back up Antonio Johnson or be used in a rotation as a starter as we did successfully in 2016 with Johnson a...

Re: Durant released by Montreal

I remember reading some posts that were critical of Chris Jones for not getting him signed to a new contract in Saskatchewan before last season. I was not one of them. I supported Jones decision. I viewed Durrant as an over-rated, often injured egocentric quarterback who expected to be babied and wh...

Re: Pending Lions free agent

Well, its interesting that our offensive line in 2016 played well enough to have our offence lead the CFL in rushing as well as protect Jonathan Jennings well enough that we finished with the 3rd least quarterback sacks in the CFL. Even though Dorazio hurt our offensive line when he benched Hunter S...

Re: Bighill released by Saints

When we last won the Grey Cup in 2011, it was our defensive line that played the most important role in that successful season. Aaron Hunt and Khalif Mitchell were CFL All-Stars and Brent Johnson, Khareem Smith, Eric Taylor and Keron Willliams rounded out an outstanding defensive line. In 2006, our ...

Re: Football Operations: GM Ed Hervey, HC Wally Buono and the Coaching Staff

All the above may be true but it still doesn't change the fact that Braley is cheap, a statement that was made often in Toronto, before he sold the Argos (and tried to get above market value for them) “Home” games were played in Fort McMurray, Alberta (3,700 kilometres away!) and in Hamilton before ...

Re: Lions name Jarious Jackson offensive coordinator and QB coach

The question really becomes, how much of the player is in the coach? I always imagine that an OC spends time just running play after play in his head, thinking about this or that variation and how to react. How well can that coach think outside the box and be creative when that didn't seem to be an ...

Re: Lions name Jarious Jackson offensive coordinator and QB coach

Jarious has looked after the passing game and quarterbacks while being an assistant under Chris Jones. Jackson said, in an interview, that Wally is 'old school' but you know what he is thinking. I love listening to euphemisms in pro sports interviews, Blitz. There are two emerging that I've heard f...

Re: Football Operations: Ed Hervey - GM, Wally Buono - VP and HC

Sounds to me like that 2017 offence as described was a product of Wally allowing his OC to build and run it as the OC sees fit. I think it had Khari's fingerprints all over it. To the best of my recollection It sounds exactly like the Bomber offence Khari ran quite successfully in his big years as ...

Re: Football Operations: Ed Hervey - GM, Wally Buono - VP and HC

Jackson is stuck with Dorazio but he will try get away from Khari Jones over-focus on throwing to the slotbacks too often and spread the football out more. 2. Can Jarious Jackson help Jonathon Jennings see the whole field and break him of his tendency to target his two inside slots on 50% of his pa...

Re: Football Operations: Ed Hervey - GM, Wally Buono - VP and HC

As I look at the Lions staff and the differences already from 2017 to 2018, I like the changes we have made so far this off-season. While I would have preferred a different Head Coach, defensive coordinator, and offensive line coach for 2018, our Lions staff is much improved for this upcoming season...
